Anurag Thakur On OTT: In today’s time, OTT platform has emerged as the biggest means of entertainment and after Covid, its level has also increased a lot. Through this, people enjoy new movies and web series sitting at home.
At the same time, Union Information and Broadcasting Minister Anurag Thakur has now given a strict statement on the obscenities being served on OTT in the name of self-regulation. After the Parliament session, in a meeting with OTT platforms, he said that the government aims to grow the industry, but obscenity will not be tolerated in the name of self-regulation.
Journalist Anand Vijay’s book ‘Over the Top’ was launched by RSS publicity chief Sunil Ambekar and Union Minister Anurag Singh Thakur. The book has been written on the subject of OTT platforms and focuses on the negative things being served through OTT platforms.
During this, Anurag Thakur said, ‘Anant Vijay has written a good book on OTT through the book. In the book, the existing negative things have been explained and solutions have also been given. I am already trying to solve the topic raised in this book.
He further said, ‘OTT platform also has a positive side in taking stories and languages to the world. OTT is market driven, subscriber base is increasing and opportunities are also increasing. OTT plays a role in content creation. There was constant communication with OTT, so that the balance was maintained. There should be self-regulation, but there should also be a sense of responsibility.
He said, ‘Our aim is not to suppress the industry but to grow it, but in the name of self-regulation of OTT, if nudity, indecency, dirty language, obscenity are served, we have taken action earlier also and will not step back from doing so again. Nudity and obscenity cannot be tolerated under the guise of freedom. Hurting religious sentiments sometimes causes a lot of problems.
He also said, ‘The next meeting with the OTT platform is to be held after the Parliament session. We are going to raise the remaining topics. If any other game is played behind OTT and YouTube, it will not be tolerated. If the unity and integrity of the country is attacked, action will be taken. Fake news has become a challenge. OTT should also serve as true information. At the same time, Sunil Ambekar said that regulation on OTT should be considered, there is no harm in it.
