Ayodhya Deepotsav 2024: Two world records were set on the banks of the Saryu river in Ayodhya on Wednesday on the occasion of the eighth Deepotsav. Two ‘Guinness World Records‘ were set for the largest number of people performing aarti simultaneously and lighting the largest number of diyas. The two records were set at 55 ghats, including Ram Ki Paidi, on the banks of the Saryu river in the holy city, where more than 25 lakh earthen diyas were lit simultaneously and 1,121 ‘vedacharyas’ (teachers of religious texts) performed ‘aarti’ simultaneously. The diyas were counted through drones.

‘Guinness World Record’ adjudicator Praveen Patel announced the new record on Wednesday evening, where he was accompanied by ‘Guinness Consultant’ Nischal Bharot for verification. Patel said, “Uttar Pradesh Tourism Department, Ayodhya District Administration and Saryu Aarti Committee are the title holders of ‘Guinness World Record’ for performing Aarti by the maximum number of 1,121 people. Congratulations to all of you.”

About the second record, the Guinness jury said, “By lighting a total of 25,12,585 diyas, the Uttar Pradesh Tourism Department, Ayodhya District Administration and Dr. Ram Manohar Lohia Avadh University are the new Guinness World Record holders for the most number of diyas lit simultaneously.” Patel said he was “very happy” to have verified not one but two Guinness World Record titles – one for the most people performing aarti simultaneously and the other for the most number of diyas lit simultaneously.

He said that ‘Aarti by the largest number of people simultaneously is a completely new record while the current record of lighting diyas was 22 lakh 23 thousand 676 (22.23 lakh) diyas. Patel said, ‘It is important that we have the numbers, but it is also important that you follow the guidelines.’
He said, ‘You have followed the guidelines for both the records.’
