The issue of Jammu and Kashmir has always been discussed internationally. BJP has formed coalition governments with both the National Conference and the PDP. However, BJP has not yet formed a government on its own.
National Conference chief Farooq Abdullah has announced that Omar Abdullah will be the next Chief Minister of Jammu and Kashmir. Omar Abdullah has won two seats, Budgam and Ganderbal. NC had made some big announcements in its election manifesto. Like, it talked about restoring Article 370-35A and restoring the status of the state to the situation before 5 August 2019. It also promised to ensure the release of prisoners lodged in the valley’s jails.
48 seats are required to form the government
After five members are nominated to form the government in Jammu and Kashmir, the strength in the assembly will be 95. Any party needs a majority of 48 seats to form the government here. Jammu and Kashmir assembly has been formed on the lines of Puducherry assembly, where three nominated members work like elected MLAs and have the right to vote in the house.
Jammu Kashmir Election Results: What is the reason for the victory of the Congress alliance?
Talking to ByNews, political analyst Mohammad Shoaib explained the reason for the victory of the Congress alliance. He said, the people of Kashmir first consider themselves Kashmiris. If the people of Kashmir were in favor of the BJP’s plans, then people would have supported them in the elections. If they have not supported the BJP, it means that Kashmiris are not happy with the BJP’s plans.Â
However, on NC’s manifesto, Mohammad Shoaib said that BJP has taken such big decisions like removal of Article 370, demonetization, implementation of GST, which was not possible for any other political party. Nor is it possible to change these decisions again if any other party forms the government. If the price of a gas cylinder increases from Rs 400 to Rs 1100 in a government, then it is not at all possible that the gas cylinder will again become Rs 400 if another party forms the government.
Why has BJP not won in Jammu Kashmir yet?
ByNews spoke to political analyst Amit Bajpai on this issue. He says that Jammu Kashmir is a Muslim-dominated union territory. No matter how much work the BJP government at the centre does for the development of Jammu Kashmir, it is not easy for BJP to form a government on its own in the valley. It is almost impossible. For this, BJP will have to unite Kashmiri Pandits and Dalits. The Muslim community votes unitedly. They are not concerned with development. Congress takes political advantage of this.Â
After the repeal of Article 370, Jammu and Kashmir was made a union territory. Restrictions remained in place in the valley for a long time. People supported the central government’s strictness against terrorism, separatism and stone-pelting, but most people also felt that protests were being suppressed by instilling fear. This was also a major reason for BJP not getting votes in the valley.
Now Kashmir will become another Delhi!
Bajpai says that there will not be any such big change. But now Jammu and Kashmir will become another Delhi. Because there are more issues related to the Muslim community here, so some such issues will be raised, which will lead to a conflict with the center. Like Delhi, a conflict can be seen here as well. It will be alleged that the BJP is not allowing work to be done in the state. It will also be said that the elected government of the state is being harassed. But if seen, the central government has also been elected by the people. Politics can be done on many such issues. For some reason, some states have not been given full rights in the constitution.Â
“Union Territory simply means that the boss here will be the ‘Center’. The Lieutenant Governor is the representative of the Central Government. Some states have not been given full rights in the Constitution. The Supreme Court has also said this on the issue of Delhi. In such a situation, a conflict like the one between the Aam Aadmi Party and the Central Government can be seen in Jammu and Kashmir as well.”
What do experts say about terrorism in Jammu and Kashmir?
The BJP government at the Centre often claims that terrorism has reduced significantly in the valley after the abolition of Article 370, stone-pelting has ended. Government statistics also show the same. However, President’s rule has been imposed in the Union Territory for the last 5 years. Before this, there was a coalition government of BJP.
On terrorism in Jammu and Kashmir, Vishnu Sharma said, it cannot be said that the Congress coalition government will promote terrorism in the Union Territory, but there will definitely be politics of appeasement. The incidents of terrorism in the valley have reduced compared to before, but it has not ended yet. The way the National Conference released its manifesto, it raises suspicion that now their government can promote separatism. They can try to do something like this to please their vote bank.
Political analyst Mohammad Shoaib said, first we need to understand why terrorism happens. Understand it with an example – if Bangladesh occupies UP-Bihar, then obviously the people of the state will not accept the rule of Bangladesh. The case of Kashmir is also similar. This is an issue of international politics. Terrorism in Kashmir has nothing to do with any party. This is an issue that has been going on for decades.
Let us tell you that elections were held in Jammu and Kashmir after 10 years and this time the assembly elections were held in three phases. In December last year, the Supreme Court had directed the Election Commission to conduct assembly elections in Jammu and Kashmir by 30 September.
