Criminal Cases Against One-Third of Rajya Sabha MPs Exposed: Out of 225 members of Rajya Sabha, 33 percent have informed about having criminal cases against them, while the total assets of these sitting MPs is Rs 19,602 crore. According to electoral rights organization ADR, 31 or 14 percent of them are billionaires.
The Association for Democratic Reforms (ADR) also said that 18 percent of these MPs have declared serious criminal cases. Which includes cases of murder and attempt to murder. In an analysis conducted by ADR and National Election Watch (NEW), two Rajya Sabha members have reported cases related to murder under section 302 of the IPC.
While four Rajya Sabha MPs have announced cases related to attempt to murder under section 307 of the IPC. The report said that out of the 225 sitting Rajya Sabha MPs analysed, 75 (33 per cent) sitting Rajya Sabha MPs have declared criminal cases against themselves and 40 (18 per cent) sitting Rajya Sabha MPs have declared serious criminal cases. . The study also examined the proportion of these criminal cases among MPs of different political parties.
Cases against MPs are up to 302
In this matter, BJP is currently ahead with 23 percent of its 90 Rajya Sabha members who have declared criminal cases against themselves. Congress is also facing similar allegations and 50 percent of its 28 MPs are facing similar allegations.
ADR’s analysis said five out of 13 Rajya Sabha members from TMC (38 per cent), four out of six from RJD (67 per cent), four out of five from CPI(M) (80 per cent) have submitted their affidavits. I have declared criminal cases against myself.
Average wealth of Rajya Sabha MPs is Rs 87.12 crore
The study also explored the wealth of Rajya Sabha members.

Major parties include BJP with 9 out of 90 Rajya Sabha members (10 per cent),
Congress with 4 out of 28 Rajya Sabha members (14 per cent),
YSRCP with 5 out of 11 MPs (45 per cent),
AAP with 2 out of 10 Rajya Sabha members ( 20 percent),
3 out of 4 Rajya Sabha members of TRS (75 percent)
and 2 out of 6 (33 percent) MPs of RJD have declared assets worth more than Rs 100 crore.
Moreover, the total assets of the current members of Rajya Sabha analyzed are a staggering Rs 19,602 crore.
