Rule Change: The first day of every month brings new changes. This time, too, several rules are set to come into effect from July 1, 2026, which could directly impact the pockets and daily lives of the general public. Being aware of these changes in advance will allow you to complete essential tasks on time and avoid any inconvenience or extra expenses. Let’s take a look at what is changing from July 1 and how these changes might affect you:
Several key rules to change from July 1
No. 1 – Free email updates for Aadhaar
From July 1, 2026, there will be no charge for updating the registered email ID on your Aadhaar card. Currently, a fee of ₹75 is charged for this service. However, according to the UIDAI, email updates via the Aadhaar mobile app will be completely free from July 1 to December 31, 2026.
Additionally, another major change is taking place: the ‘mAadhaar’ app will be discontinued after June 30. All Aadhaar-related tasks will now be handled through the new ‘Aadhaar App’. Therefore, if you are currently using the old app on your mobile, it will no longer be functional; you will need to use the new app for any Aadhaar-related information or updates.
No. 2 – Changes related to LPG and PNG
For individuals holding both LPG and PNG connections, a deadline of June 30 had been set to switch to PNG. This rule may be implemented starting in July. However, there has been no official announcement yet regarding the discontinuation of gas supplies. Meanwhile, if a person moves to an area where PNG facilities are unavailable, they will be able to reactivate their previously surrendered LPG connection.
Furthermore, as happens every month, the prices of domestic and commercial gas cylinders will be reviewed on July 1. With conditions in the international market normalizing, there are expectations of some relief regarding gas prices this time around. Number 3 – Getting a passport will become costlier
If you are planning to get a new passport, make sure to check the revised fees first. The cost of obtaining a passport will increase starting July 1. The fee for a standard 36-page passport will rise from ₹1,500 to ₹2,500. Meanwhile, the fee for a ‘Tatkaal’ (expedited) passport will increase from ₹3,500 to ₹5,000. Fees for larger passport booklets will also be hiked.
Number 4 – Railway rules may become stricter
New rules may also be implemented for train passengers. Under these, the penalty for ticketless travel could be increased. Additionally, regulations to maintain order at railway stations and on trains might be tightened. The government has approved the proposal, and these rules are expected to come into effect tomorrow, July 1.
Number 5 – New facilities via EPFO 3.0
The government may soon launch EPFO 3.0. Once implemented, withdrawing PF funds could become easier for private-sector employees. Under the new system, employees will be able to withdraw their PF money using UPI and ATMs.
Number 6 – Changes for credit card users
If you use an SBI or HDFC Bank credit card, it is important for you to be aware of the new rules. Starting July 1, SBI Card may limit the reward points offered on certain PhonePe SBI credit cards. Meanwhile, some HDFC Bank cardholders will only be eligible for free domestic lounge access if they spend at least ₹60,000 in a quarter. Therefore, be sure to check your bank’s new rules before using your card.
In light of this, if you need to update your email ID in Aadhaar, apply for a passport, handle tasks related to your gas connection, or use a credit card, make sure to familiarize yourself with the new rules beforehand. Having the correct information will allow you to complete your tasks easily and avoid any inconvenience.
