Preparations for the EV portal in Delhi are complete; it will be launched next week.

The Delhi government is set to launch an online portal next week. Through this portal, eligible individuals will be able to apply for incentives—available under the new EV Policy 2026—for purchasing electric vehicles and scrapping old petrol or diesel vehicles. According to government officials, the portal is expected to be ready within the next 4-5 days. Once launched, people can apply online to avail themselves of the scheme’s benefits. The new electric vehicle policy includes provisions for subsidies on the purchase of electric two-wheelers, three-wheelers, and N1 category trucks. Additionally, a separate scrapping incentive has been arranged for those who purchase an electric vehicle after retiring their old petrol or diesel vehicles.

According to Transport Department officials, eligible beneficiaries will be able to submit their applications online once the portal goes live. Officials stated that upon approval of the application, the subsidy and other sanctioned amounts would be transferred directly to the beneficiaries’ bank accounts via Direct Benefit Transfer (DBT). Furthermore, the portal will offer various other facilities for electric vehicle users, including real-time information on charging points, a list of authorized scrapping vendors, vehicle dealership details, and other important information related to the new EV policy.

Subsidy to be credited to accounts via DBT

According to a senior Transport Department official, buyers seeking to avail of the incentive must upload the vehicle purchase certificate issued by an authorized dealer and other necessary documents onto the portal. The official explained that after the application verification process is complete, the incentive amount due to eligible applicants will be transferred directly to their bank accounts. Meanwhile, vehicle owners scrapping old petrol or diesel vehicles will need to upload the certificate issued by an authorized vehicle scrapping center and documents related to the purchase of the new electric vehicle. The Transport Department official stated that the online portal is being designed to ensure the application process is transparent, simple, and fast, thereby making it easier for beneficiaries to access the scheme’s benefits. Exemption on Road Tax and Registration Fees for Electric Cars

Under the new EV Policy 2026, certain electric vehicle buyers will not need to apply via an online portal to avail of incentives. Officials stated that buyers of electric cars—as well as other vehicles not covered under the specific incentive scheme—will automatically receive exemptions on road tax and registration fees at the time of vehicle registration. According to officials, the policy maintains a full exemption from road tax and registration fees for electric cars with an ex-showroom price of up to ₹30 lakh. This measure will reduce the initial cost for buyers and encourage the adoption of EVs.

What is the incentive for purchasing EVs?

Eligible customers purchasing electric vehicles will receive financial assistance based on the vehicle category and the year of the policy. Under the policy, incentives for electric two-wheelers will be up to ₹30,000 in the first year, ₹20,000 in the second year, and ₹10,000 in the third year. Meanwhile, buyers of electric three-wheelers will receive incentives of up to ₹50,000 in the first year, ₹30,000 in the second year, and ₹20,000 in the third year. Additionally, buyers of N1 category electric trucks will receive an incentive of up to ₹1 lakh in the first year of the policy.

What is the incentive for scrapping?

In addition to promoting electric vehicle purchases, the Delhi government’s new EV Policy 2026 includes provisions for scrapping incentives to facilitate the phasing out of older petrol and diesel vehicles. Under the policy, eligible vehicle owners who scrap their old vehicles to purchase a new electric vehicle will receive incentive amounts across various categories. Under this scheme, a scrapping incentive will be provided as follows: up to ₹10,000 for electric two-wheelers; up to ₹25,000 for electric three-wheelers; up to ₹1 lakh for electric cars; up to ₹50,000 for N1 category electric trucks; and up to ₹15,000 for rural service vehicles.
