Weather Update: Heavy rain in Delhi today; monsoon brings relief to UP and Rajasthan; rain turns into a nuisance in Mumbai.

New Delhi: The monsoon has now arrived across the entire country, including Delhi, Uttar Pradesh, Punjab, and Haryana. Following strong winds and rain on Thursday morning, more rainfall is expected in Delhi-NCR today. Cloudy skies accompanied by thunderstorms and rain are forecast for Delhi over the next four days. Similar rainfall activity has also reached Western UP, including Noida and Ghaziabad. The monsoon is bringing rain to hilly regions as well; tourists in places like Manali and Shimla (Himachal Pradesh) are delighted.

Storms and Rain in Rajasthan

The Meteorological Department has predicted dust storms in Rajasthan. An alert has been issued for strong winds and light rain in parts of Eastern Rajasthan on July 3–4, while isolated areas in Western Rajasthan may experience storms and light drizzles. The department has also issued a heavy rain alert for parts of Madhya Pradesh, Chhattisgarh, and Vidarbha, warning of strong winds accompanying the rainfall.

Monsoon Covers the Country

Conditions are favorable for the Southwest Monsoon to advance further over the next 2–3 days into the North Arabian Sea, Gujarat, the remaining parts of Madhya Pradesh, Haryana, Punjab, and additional areas of Rajasthan. Similar rainy conditions are expected to persist in UP, Punjab, Haryana, and Rajasthan over the coming days.

Rain Alert for Uttarakhand

Rain alerts have also been issued for Uttarakhand, Jammu & Kashmir, and Himachal Pradesh. Heavy rainfall is likely in Uttarakhand from July 3 to July 5; the monsoon rains are expected to bring relief to areas ranging from Chamoli and Pithoragarh to Haldwani and Dehradun. Alerts for rain have also been issued for parts of the Jammu & Kashmir and Ladakh regions. The monsoon has become active in Himachal Pradesh as well.

Heavy Rain in Mumbai

The monsoon is bringing torrential rain to Mumbai. A spell of heavy downpour has continued through the night in the Andheri area. The Andheri Subway, a crucial route connecting the eastern and western parts of Andheri, has been closed due to heavy rainfall. Following a recent incident in Sakinaka, the Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) has stepped up vigilance and deployed staff at the site as a precautionary measure. Continuous heavy rain has led to waterlogging in several areas of Andheri. Meanwhile, the Meteorological Department has issued an ‘Orange Alert’ for Mumbai, urging citizens to remain cautious and step out of their homes only if necessary.
