Durg: A woman was defrauded of approximately ₹85 lakh after being lured with promises of resolving family issues through religious rituals and generating huge profits in share trading. The police have arrested the accused, Pawan Badhoria, from Indore, Madhya Pradesh. The incident falls under the jurisdiction of the Bhilai Nagar police station. According to reports, the victim met Pawan Badhoria during a family event in Raipur in 2023. During their conversation, the woman mentioned her family problems, prompting the accused to claim he could resolve all her troubles through religious rituals.
Subsequently, he obtained around ₹85 lakh from the woman in various installments under the guise of performing rituals, meeting personal needs, and investing in share trading. Despite the passage of nearly two years, the woman received no benefits. When she demanded the return of her money, the accused initially promised to secure her a job but later flatly refused to repay the amount, threatening to kill her instead.
The victim lodged a complaint at the police station, prompting an investigation. During the probe, evidence of extortion through threats emerged, leading to the registration of a case under Sections 318(4), 351(3), and 308(3) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS). A police team then conducted a raid in Indore, Madhya Pradesh, and arrested the accused, Pawan Badhoria. A mobile phone linked to his bank account and an Aadhaar card were seized from his possession. The accused has been produced in court and remanded to judicial custody.
