Rajasthan News: The Health Department has gone on alert following the death of a 6-year-old girl from Rajasthan’s Dungarpur district due to a suspected Chandipura Virus (CHPV) infection. The girl was undergoing treatment at a government hospital in Himmatnagar, Gujarat, where she passed away on July 15. However, health officials have clarified that the infection will only be confirmed once the test reports are received. The Gujarat government informed the Rajasthan Health Department about the case. Subsequently, acting on instructions from the Jaipur headquarters, the Dungarpur administration initiated precautionary measures in the affected village.
Girl Dies in Gujarat Hospital
According to the Health Department, Rinku, a 6-year-old girl from Ratanpura village in the Simalwara area of Dungarpur district, suddenly began vomiting on the evening of July 13. Her family initially took her to a private hospital in Simalwara. As her condition deteriorated, she was referred to a hospital in Modasa, Gujarat, and later to the government hospital in Himmatnagar. She passed away during treatment on July 15.
Awaiting Test Reports
Officials stated that the Himmatnagar hospital has sent the girl’s samples for testing. As of now, there is no official confirmation of a Chandipura Virus infection. The Gujarat Health Department informed the Rajasthan government about the matter. Following this, on July 18, the Rajasthan Health Department directed the Dungarpur administration to take necessary action.
Medical Teams Deployed in the Village
Chief Medical and Health Officer (CMHO) Dr. Alankar Gupta stated that Health Department teams are maintaining constant surveillance in the affected village of Ratanpura. So far, 353 people have undergone health screenings. Additionally, necessary precautionary measures are being taken to prevent the spread of the infection.

Chandipura Virus (CHPV) is a viral infection that primarily spreads through sandflies, though it can also be transmitted by other vectors such as mosquitoes and ticks. This infection predominantly affects children under the age of 15. Infection can lead to high fever, vomiting, flu-like symptoms, and—in severe cases—encephalitis.
