Colds and coughs on the rise with the changing weather! Could it be COVID-19? Doctors reveal new symptoms and preventive measures.

The rainy season is often referred to as the season of illnesses. During this time, the body’s immunity weakens, increasing the risk of colds, flu, fever, and various infections. With the onset of the monsoon, mosquito-borne diseases like dengue, malaria, and chikungunya also spread rapidly. Meanwhile, COVID-19 cases have recently been reported in Andhra Pradesh, Odisha, and Bihar. In light of the rising threat of COVID-19, several states have issued advisories. Let us find out from a doctor what the new symptoms of COVID-19 are.

The doctor explained that changes in symptoms have been observed following the emergence of new COVID-19 variants. Although the infection is generally milder compared to earlier strains, the initial symptoms resemble those of a viral fever, making it difficult for people to distinguish between the two.

Difference between COVID-19 and Viral Fever

Both COVID-19 and viral infections can present symptoms such as fever, sore throat, cough, runny nose, body aches, headaches, and fatigue. Consequently, many people mistake it for a common viral infection and begin treatment at home. However, if the fever persists, breathing difficulties arise, there is a loss of taste or smell, or weakness increases rapidly, these signs should not be ignored.

New Symptoms of COVID-19

According to experts, symptoms associated with the new COVID variants include severe sore throat, persistent cough, mild to high fever, nasal congestion, muscle pain, and extreme fatigue. Some patients may also experience gastrointestinal issues, such as nausea or diarrhea. While most people recover from a common viral fever within a few days, symptoms in some COVID-19 cases can persist for a longer period.

Consult a Doctor Immediately Upon Noticing Symptoms

If a person experiences high fever, persistent cough, or breathing difficulties—especially after coming into contact with someone infected with COVID-19—it is advisable to consult a doctor and undergo a COVID-19 test. Timely testing and treatment can prevent the infection from spreading and reduce the risk of serious complications.

Health experts advise getting plenty of rest when ill, staying hydrated, eating a balanced diet, and taking necessary precautions in crowded places. If symptoms are severe or persist for several days, it is crucial to consult a doctor without delay.
