Torrential rains are wreaking havoc across several states in the country. While lakhs of people in Assam have been affected by floods, hilly regions are witnessing frequent landslides. The Meteorological Department has issued warnings for heavy to very heavy rainfall in several states over the coming days. Strong winds and lightning strikes are also expected in various locations during this period.
Yellow Alert for Delhi-NCR
A ‘Yellow Alert’ has been issued for the national capital, Delhi, and its surrounding areas regarding rain and thunderstorms between July 30 and August 3. The Meteorological Department has warned of heavy rain accompanied by lightning and strong winds on July 30, followed by a spell of light to moderate rain continuing until August 3.
Heavy Rain Warning for UP Today
The monsoon has become fully active in Uttar Pradesh starting July 30. Heavy rainfall is likely in Western UP districts—such as Muzaffarnagar, Saharanpur, Ghaziabad, Gautam Buddha Nagar, Aligarh, Agra, and Bareilly—on July 30 and 31. Meanwhile, a spell of heavy rain is expected to commence in Eastern UP—including Lucknow, Gorakhpur, Varanasi, and Prayagraj—between August 2 and 4.
Rain Forecast for Other States Today
Light to moderate rain is expected in some parts of Bihar today, while heavy rainfall may occur in several districts starting July 31.
Warnings have been issued for moderate to heavy and extremely heavy rainfall across several parts of Rajasthan from today (July 30) through August 2.
Warning for Hill States?
Continuous heavy rains and landslides in Uttarakhand have disrupted the Char Dham Yatra; the administration has suspended the pilgrimage. According to the Meteorological Department, widespread rainfall is likely across the state from July 30 to August 4. Heavy rainfall is likely in most districts of Himachal Pradesh—including Shimla, Mandi, Kullu, Kangra, Chamba, Una, Hamirpur, Bilaspur, Solan, Sirmaur, Kinnaur, and Lahaul-Spiti—on July 30 and 31.
A spell of rain is expected to continue across several parts of Jammu and Kashmir from July 30 to August 4. During this period, the region may also witness the impact of thunderstorms and storms.
