CG Electricity Update: There is welcome news for electricity consumers in Chhattisgarh. Going forward, additional charges resulting from an increase in electricity load will not be added to the bill every three months. The Chhattisgarh State Power Company has decided to implement a new system under which charges for increased load will be added to the electricity bill only once a year—specifically in December. This decision will provide relief, particularly to consumers who previously faced higher bills during summer months due to increased electricity consumption and the associated load charges.
How does the electricity load increase?
According to the Power Company, consumers no longer need to submit a separate application to increase their load. If a consumer’s premises records an electricity load exceeding the sanctioned capacity for three consecutive months, it is treated as an increased load. For instance, if a consumer has a 1-kilowatt connection but their usage reaches 2 or 3 kilowatts due to the continuous operation of multiple electrical appliances, charges are levied based on this additional load.
Charges to be recovered in the December bill
Under the new system, regardless of whether the consumer’s load increases during the summer or at any other time of the year, the associated charges will be added to the bill only once—in December. Since electricity consumption is relatively lower in December, the financial burden of a lump-sum bill on consumers will be reduced. The December bill will be issued in January and will include the charges for the increased load.
