CG RTE Admission 2026: The admission process for private schools under the Right to Education (RTE) Act in Chhattisgarh has reached its final stage, yet the pace of applications remains slow. In the capital, Raipur, admissions have been secured for only 2,461 out of 3,201 available seats so far, leaving 740 seats vacant. Thousands of seats remain unfilled across the state as well. Consequently, it is anticipated that a large number of seats may remain vacant this year too.
740 Seats Still Vacant in Raipur
A total of 3,201 RTE seats are available in the capital, Raipur. Following the completion of the first two rounds of the admission process, 2,461 admissions have been finalized, while 740 seats remain vacant. Although the third and final phase began about 10 days ago, only 236 new applications have been received so far.
Over 9,000 Seats Vacant Across the State
Approximately 23,124 seats have been allocated under the RTE scheme across 6,858 private schools in the state. Following the first and second phases, admissions have been secured for about 13,882 seats, leaving approximately 9,242 seats vacant. The Education Department is concerned that the expected number of applications is not being received even in the final phase.
Online Applications Open Until August 5
According to the schedule released by the Directorate, eligible parents can submit online applications via the RTE portal for the third and final phase until August 5. Subsequently, nodal principals will verify the documents, and the selection list will be released between August 10 and August 14. Selected students must complete their admission at the respective schools between August 17 and August 25.
Higher Vacancy Rates in Hindi-Medium Schools
According to sources within the Education Department, a greater number of seats remain vacant in Hindi-medium schools compared to English-medium private schools. Most parents prefer enrolling their children in English-medium schools, whereas many private Hindi-medium schools have failed to receive sufficient applications even after three rounds of the process.
Concern Over Falling Behind on the Syllabus
Parents believe that delays in the admission process negatively impact their children’s education. If admissions take place as late as August 25, the schools will have already covered a significant portion of the syllabus, potentially making it difficult for new students to catch up. Parents argue that the RTE admission process should be completed before schools open so that children have the opportunity to engage in regular studies from the very beginning.
Education Department Focuses on the Final Round
The Education Department is now pinning its hopes on the final round. If the number of applications does not increase in the coming days, thousands of RTE seats across the state could remain vacant this year as well. The department is urging as many eligible parents as possible to submit their applications in time.
