Indian Railways Update: The Raipur Railway Division has launched a new initiative to enhance the safety of rail passengers and curb disputes arising during ticket inspections. Body-worn cameras have been provided to 38 Traveling Ticket Examiners (TTEs) of the division. These cameras will enable real-time recording of all activities—ranging from ticket checks to interactions with passengers and any potential disputes. The Railways has currently introduced this system as a pilot project, with plans to extend it to all staff who interact with the public in the future.
According to railway officials, the Raipur Railway Division received a total of 45 body-worn cameras in the first phase. Of these, 38 cameras have already been distributed to TTEs—specifically, 12 at Raipur station and 26 at Durg station. For now, the cameras have been assigned to the ‘fast conductor’ staff on duty in AC coaches.
Cameras for 280 more employees in the future
Under the railway’s plan, approximately 280 employees in the Raipur Railway Division will be provided with body-worn cameras in the near future. This group will include parcel clerks, commercial staff, ticket-checking personnel, and other staff involved in public interaction. The scope of this system will be expanded following the success of the pilot project.
20-hour battery backup, HD recording, and night vision
The cameras provided by the Railways are equipped with modern technology. They feature a battery backup of approximately 20 hours, high-definition (HD) video and audio recording capabilities, and night vision functionality. All data recorded by the cameras will be securely stored on the railway’s server on a daily basis. Railway officials state that it will be mandatory for employees to switch on the camera as soon as their duty begins; if an employee turns off the camera while on duty, they will be required to provide a reason for doing so.
Video evidence for every dispute
Senior DCM Dr. Suskar Vipul Vilasrao stated that cameras have currently been issued to 38 TTEs. In the future, all staff members who interact with the public will also be provided with this facility. In the event of any dispute, complaint, or misconduct, the camera recording will serve as the basis for the investigation, and action will be taken accordingly.
