New Delhi: With Sawan Shivratri (August 11) approaching, the number of Kanwariyas returning with Ganga water from Haridwar and Gangotri is steadily increasing on the capital’s roads. Consequently, if you are heading out, you need to keep the traffic advisory in mind. The police have advised people to use the Metro when traveling to Gurugram and the airport.
To ensure the safety of Kanwariyas and the convenience of the general public, the Delhi Traffic Police has completely banned the entry of heavy commercial vehicles on Kanwar routes from Sunday until August 11. Additionally, the traffic police have issued an advisory for general motorists, suggesting they avoid 11 major busy routes and instead use alternative paths or the Metro service.
Deployment of 1,829 Traffic Police Personnel
To facilitate commuters, the Delhi Traffic Police has deployed 1,829 personnel on the roads. Strict surveillance is being maintained around Kanwar camps, and one to two lanes on major roads have been reserved exclusively for the movement of Kanwariyas. The traffic police have specifically advised travelers heading to Gurugram and IGI Airport to use the Metro.
Avoid These 8 Major Routes
Given the likelihood of heavy crowds during the Kanwar Yatra, general motorists are advised not to use the following routes:
Akshardham to Dhaula Kuan Route: Apsara Border, Shahdara Flyover, Seelampur, ISBT, Rani Jhansi Road, Faiz Road, Dhaula Kuan, NH-48, and Rajokri Border.
South-East Delhi Route: Sarai Kale Khan, Ashram Chowk, Moolchand, Andrews Ganj, AIIMS, Aurobindo Marg, IIT, Lado Sarai, MG Road, and Aya Nagar Border.
North-East Delhi Internal Route: Bhopura Border, Wazirabad Road, Loni Flyover, Gokulpuri, 66-Foota Road, Seelampur, and GT Karnal Road. Singhu Border Route: Bhopura Border, Wazirabad Bridge, Outer Ring Road, Mukarba Chowk, NH-44 (GT Karnal Road), and Singhu Border.
West Delhi Link: Mukarba Chowk, Peeragarhi, and Tikri Border.
NH-9 and Badarpur Route: Maharajpur Border, Ghazipur Border, NH-9, Sarai Kale Khan, Ashram, Mathura Road, and Badarpur Border.
Noida-Gurugram Connecting Route-1: Kalindi Kunj, Mathura Road, IIT, Aurobindo Marg, and Aya Nagar Border.
Noida-Gurugram Connecting Route-2: Chirag Delhi Flyover, Khanpur, Mehrauli-Badarpur (MB) Road, and Aya Nagar.
