After the rains, the capital, Delhi, now faces a flood threat. However, the water level of the Yamuna in Delhi has begun to recede following the release of water from the Hathnikund Barrage. Meanwhile, a warning for thunderstorms and rain has been issued for the capital; rainfall may be accompanied by strong winds blowing at speeds of 40 to 50 km/h.

Continuous monsoon rains in UP have caused more than 10 rivers—including the Ganga, Yamuna, Sharda, and Saryu—to flow near the danger mark. A ‘Yellow Alert’ for heavy rain has been issued for 14 districts in UP today. The monsoon has become fully active once again in Madhya Pradesh. In Dindori, the Narmada, Kharmar, and Chakrar rivers are flowing above the danger mark, while torrential rains in Mandla district have created severe, flood-like conditions. Continuous heavy rainfall in upstream districts like Dindori and Balaghat has caused the water level of the Narmada River in Mandla to rise rapidly. Floodwaters have begun entering low-lying areas, and the threat of flooding looms over settlements situated along the riverbanks. The rising water level has submerged several ghats and temples along the Narmada. The administration is on high alert due to the potential danger. The IMD (Bhopal) has issued a heavy rainfall warning for several districts in the state today, including Raisen, Narmadapuram, Katni, Chhindwara, Balaghat, Damoh, Sagar, Pandhurna, Narsinghpur, Seoni, and Panna.

There is a likelihood of heavy rain accompanied by storms in Gaya, East Champaran, West Champaran, Rohtas, Nawada, Banka, Lakhisarai, Munger, Nalanda, Buxar, Siwan, Vaishali, Muzaffarpur, Samastipur, Darbhanga, Madhubani, Purnia, Araria, Kishanganj, Katihar, Begusarai, Saharsa, and Supaul.
Alert for Heavy Rain and Storms in Jharkhand
Rain accompanied by strong winds is expected in Ranchi, Ramgarh, Bokaro, Hazaribagh, Jamshedpur, Palamu, Khunti, and Dumka. Wind speeds could reach 50 to 60 kilometers per hour in several areas.
Rain Situation in the Mountains
While rivers are in spate in the plains, the risk of landslides has increased in the mountains. A massive landslide occurred in the Chamba district of Himachal Pradesh. A landslide near Paniyala Nala on the Sihuta National Highway in the ‘Khooni Nala’ area deposited heavy debris on the road, bringing traffic on the highway to a complete halt. Due to heavy rains and landslides, several key roads in the district—including the Chamba-Bharmour and Chamba-Pathankot National Highways—have been closed. The Meteorological Department has issued an ‘Orange Alert’ for heavy rainfall on August 10–11 and August 14–15. Moderate to heavy rain is expected today in Kangra, Sirmaur, Shimla, Mandi, Chamba, Kullu, and Solan.
Orange Alert for Heavy Rain in Uttarakhand
Heavy rains and landslides have become a source of distress for people in Uttarakhand as well. Panic gripped villagers in the Kimana area of Joshimath after a torrent of floodwaters brought down massive amounts of debris. Large boulders and mud are sliding down from hill streams. Continuous landslides are occurring in several districts, including Chamoli, Rudraprayag, and Pithoragarh, due to the heavy rainfall. The Meteorological Department has issued a heavy rain alert for Uttarakhand for the next two days, with an ‘Orange Alert’ in effect for Dehradun, Bageshwar, Nainital, Champawat, and Almora.
Flood Crisis in Assam!
Flood-like conditions prevail in Guwahati, Assam; torrential rains have caused knee-deep waterlogging in Rukmini Gaon. Severe flooding following heavy rains continues to affect approximately 1.5 lakh people across 13 districts of the state. The floods have claimed 99 lives in the state so far. Districts in Upper Assam—such as Golaghat, Sivasagar, and Jorhat—are the worst affected. Floodwaters have completely destroyed crops across nearly 11,000 hectares, and thousands of people are forced to stay in relief camps. The monsoon remains vigorous across the country—from north to south and from the mountains to the plains—with heavy rain alerts issued for several states today.
