CG Judicial News: The Supreme Court Collegium has recommended the transfer of two judges from the Odisha High Court. The decision regarding the transfer of both judges was taken during the Collegium meeting held on August 6, 2026. Under this recommendation, Justice Manas Ranjan Pathak is to be transferred from the Odisha High Court to the Gujarat High Court, and Justice Krishna Ram Mohapatra from the Odisha High Court to the Chhattisgarh High Court. The transfer process will proceed following the Collegium’s recommendation. This decision is considered significant for the Chhattisgarh High Court, as the arrival of Justice Krishna Ram Mohapatra will provide the High Court with an additional judge.
The arrival of Justice Krishna Ram Mohapatra at the Chhattisgarh High Court is expected to strengthen the judicial system. The appointment of a new judge could assist in managing the High Court’s workload and addressing pending cases. Along with Justice Mohapatra, the Collegium has also recommended the transfer of Justice Manas Ranjan Pathak; Justice Pathak will be transferred to the Gujarat High Court.
Who is Justice Krishna Ram Mohapatra?
Justice Krishna Ram Mohapatra was born on April 18, 1965. He holds BA and LLB degrees. He enrolled as an advocate with the Odisha State Bar Council on February 7, 1988. During his legal practice, he gained extensive experience across various branches of law. He worked for approximately 26 years in diverse fields, including civil, service, criminal, and constitutional matters.

Justice Mohapatra also possesses experience in cases related to laws such as the Guardians and Wards Act, the Hindu Minority and Guardianship Act, the Hindu Adoptions and Maintenance Act, and the Juvenile Justice (Care and Protection of Children) Act. He served as an Additional Standing Counsel for the State Government as well as the Odisha Public Service Commission. Additionally, he has represented various government and public institutions as an advocate.
