Several areas in Rajasthan experienced heavy rainfall over the past 24 hours, disrupting normal life. Low-lying areas in many places became waterlogged, while traffic was affected due to water accumulation on the roads. Vehicles were seen crawling in many areas, causing inconvenience to the public. According to the Meteorological Department, the highest rainfall of 227 mm was recorded in Bassi (Chittorgarh district) between Tuesday morning and Wednesday morning. Extremely heavy rainfall occurred in Baran and Udaipur, while heavy rainfall was also recorded in parts of Bhilwara, Jhalawar, Karauli, Sawai Madhopur, Pratapgarh, Banswara, Rajsamand, and Nagaur districts.
Waterlogging After Rainfall
The impact of the rain was also visible in several cities, including the capital, Jaipur. Following heavy downpours, waterlogging occurred in various parts of Jaipur, including Ajmeri Gate, the Walled City (Char-Diwari), the railway station, Bais Godam Circle, Rambagh, and Tonk Phatak. This slowed down traffic and led to congestion in several places. Motorcyclists and car drivers faced difficulties as water accumulated not only in low-lying areas but also in several upscale neighborhoods.
Water Accumulation in Mukundra Tunnel
Meanwhile, in Kota, the Mukundra Tunnel on the Delhi-Mumbai Expressway had to be closed to traffic in the afternoon due to water accumulation. About a foot of water had collected inside the tunnel, and pumps were being used to drain it out. Consequently, vehicles approaching the tunnel from the Mumbai direction were diverted to NH-52. A traffic jam also occurred near Dara-ki-Naal on the Kota-Jhalawar NH-52, resulting in long queues of vehicles on both sides.
Udaysagar Dam Water Level Exceeds 21 Feet
Continuous rainfall in Udaipur caused the water level of the Udaysagar Dam to rise above 21 feet. The dam’s full capacity is 24 feet. Following increased water inflow due to persistent rain in the catchment area, the Water Resources Department opened two of the dam’s gates by one foot each on Wednesday afternoon. Additionally, light to moderate rain accompanied by thunderstorms and gusty winds (speeding at 30–40 km/h) is expected in isolated areas across several districts, including Hanumangarh, Sri Ganganagar, Churu, Jhunjhunu, Sikar, Kotputli-Behror, and Khairthal-Tijara. The Meteorological Department has issued ‘Yellow’ and ‘Orange’ alerts, forecasting heavy rainfall in southeastern and eastern Rajasthan over the next 48 hours.
