New Delhi: Heavy rainfall accompanied by thunderstorms is expected in several states across the country today. The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued an ‘Orange Alert’ warning of very heavy rainfall for Uttar Pradesh, Uttarakhand, Odisha, Gangetic West Bengal, and Arunachal Pradesh. Heavy rain is also likely over the next 24 hours in Chhattisgarh, Gujarat, Himachal Pradesh, Jammu & Kashmir, Ladakh, Jharkhand, Konkan, Goa, Madhya Maharashtra, and Madhya Pradesh.
The IMD has also forecast thunderstorms accompanied by lightning and gusty winds over the next three to four days in the Andaman and Nicobar Islands, Andhra Pradesh, Karnataka, Tamil Nadu, Puducherry, Karaikal, Sub-Himalayan West Bengal and Sikkim, Telangana, Bihar, and Vidarbha.
Likelihood of Heavy Rain in Hill States
According to the IMD forecast, heavy rain is likely in Himachal Pradesh, Jammu & Kashmir, and Ladakh on Sunday, while Uttarakhand may experience thunderstorms and lightning. Heavy rainfall is predicted for Uttarakhand and Uttar Pradesh. Heavy rain is also expected in Chhattisgarh, East Madhya Pradesh, West Madhya Pradesh, and Vidarbha.
Weather Outlook for Bihar, Jharkhand, and Odisha
Heavy rain is likely in Bihar on Sunday, accompanied by the possibility of thunderstorms, lightning, and gusty winds. Jharkhand and Odisha are also likely to experience heavy rain and thunderstorms, with gusty winds expected in parts of both states. Widespread rainfall is expected to continue in Jharkhand and Odisha over the coming days.

Thunderstorms and lightning are likely in some parts of the Northeast. Heavy rainfall may also occur in Madhya Maharashtra and Vidarbha today. Widespread rainfall is likely in Coastal Karnataka, as well as in Kerala, Mahe, and Lakshadweep. Rain is also expected in parts of Andhra Pradesh, Karnataka, Tamil Nadu, Puducherry, Karaikal, and Telangana.
The Southwest Monsoon is expected to remain active across many parts of the country, with widespread rainfall continuing in parts of North, Central, East, Northeast, West, and South India. The latest forecast from the Meteorological Department indicates that rainfall will continue in many parts of the country until August 20.
