CG Public Holiday: Chhattisgarh government has made an important announcement for the people of the state regarding Rakshabandhan festival. The state government has declared Friday, August 28, 2026 as a public holiday. On this day, all the government offices and institutions as well as banks and treasuries of the state will remain closed. The General Administration Department has issued a notification in this regard. After this decision of the government, government work will be completely closed on the day of Rakshabandhan. Along with this, work related to banking and treasury will also be affected.

Holiday in government offices on 28th August

There will be a public holiday in the state on Friday, August 28. During this period, there will be no regular work in all government offices and government institutions. Rakshabandhan is the main festival of love and mutual affection between brothers and sisters. Every year a large number of people celebrate this festival with their families in the state. Declaring a public holiday will also provide facilities to government employees and common people to celebrate the festival.

Banks and treasuries will also remain closed

The government has not limited the holiday only to government offices. All treasuries and banks of the state will also remain closed on August 28. In such a situation, people doing important work related to banking will have to complete their work in advance keeping in mind the holiday date. It has been clarified in the notification that the state government has taken this decision in exercise of the powers conferred under Section 25 of the Negotiable Instruments Act, 1881.

Online banking services will be available

Despite bank branches remaining closed, digital services like online banking, mobile banking, UPI and ATM may remain available as usual. However, people may have to wait till the next working day for direct transactions at the bank branch. Similarly, for treasury related works, the concerned departments and employees will have to keep in mind the date of holiday.
