CG Electricity KYC: The Chhattisgarh State Power Distribution Company (CSPDCL) has initiated a KYC (Know Your Customer) drive for all consumers across the state to identify and crack down on illegal electricity connections. E-KYC for all consumers began on September 1. Every consumer’s smart meter or standard meter will be linked to their Aadhaar. Initially, the e-KYC process was launched via the ‘Mor Bijli’ app; consumers can complete the process on the app using video KYC (facial recognition) and an OTP sent to the mobile number linked to their Aadhaar.
KYC at Electricity Offices Starting September 7
From September 7, the facility to complete e-KYC will be available at all zonal offices, where consumers can complete the process using their thumb impression and OTP. Subsequently, company staff will conduct door-to-door e-KYC. Smart meter e-KYC can be completed using facial recognition or thumb scanning and an OTP sent to the registered Aadhaar number.
Identification of Legal Successors
CSPDCL’s smart meter e-KYC drive will help identify those consuming electricity illegally. It will reveal information about consumers who have been using smart meters registered in someone else’s name. However, according to electricity department officials, such consumers will be given ample opportunity to change the name on their electricity connection.
Requirements for Consumer E-KYC
Smart Meter E-KYC: This process matches the consumer’s 12-digit Aadhaar number with the database, linking the consumer’s electricity account (CA number) to their verified Aadhaar details.
Free Process
This process is entirely free of charge. Provisions are in place for CSPDCL to take action based on consumer complaints if any employee demands a fee. Consumers should report any demands for payment by calling 1912.
