In 2009, Rakhi Sawant hosted a Swayamvar where she had to date 16 men and choose a husband. The show became one of the most talked-about reality shows on Indian television. Hosted by Ram Kapoor, the show featured a diverse group of participants—including businessmen, actors, models, police officers, choreographers, fitness trainers, and astrologers—all vying to marry Rakhi. Now, the ‘Drama Queen’ has revealed the real reason behind doing the show, though the fact remains that she wasn’t actually looking for a husband at the time.
Rakhi Sawant reveals the real reason for doing the Swayamvar
Rakhi Sawant recently appeared on comedian Rounak Rajani’s show, Relationshit Advice, and disclosed why she agreed to do the reality show. Rakhi said, “I was looking for a groom on the Swayamvar, but they had brought in all these struggling artists. I was very new back then—just a young girl. My focus was on Bollywood; I wasn’t looking for love or romance at all. I wanted to buy a house, which is why I did the Swayamvar—to get the money into my bank account. Yes, it was all a sham. I was only thinking about getting those ‘green notes’ so I could buy a home in Lokhandwala. I was living in a rented place and needed a house. On one hand, the director and producer were narrating the script, and on the other, they were paying me.”
Rakhi’s second Swayamvar never happened
After going through various stages—such as dancing, romantic moments, and meeting the contestants’ families—Rakhi chose Canadian businessman Elesh Parujanwala as her husband-to-be. However, instead of getting married, they only got engaged. The couple later parted ways. In December 2009, Rakhi expressed a desire to host a ‘Rakhi Ka Doosra Swayamvar’ (Rakhi’s Second Swayamvar), stating that she would seek her family’s help for it this time. Although that show never materialized, the franchise was revived in 2010 with Rahul Dulhania Le Jayega, in which 16 women competed to become Rahul Mahajan’s wife.
Rakhi Sawant Loses Faith in Love
Rakhi Sawant states that she is currently single and has lost faith in love after being betrayed by several men. She had even presented Ritesh Singh as her fake husband to participate in Bigg Boss. Rakhi married Adil Khan Durrani, but the couple divorced in 2023.
