IPS Isha Singh: The inspiring journey of a Delhi DCP—she cracked the UPSC exam and became an officer after witnessing the injustice faced by her IPS father.

On September 9, 2026, five Indian Police Service (IPS) officers were transferred within the Delhi Police and assigned additional charges. Isha Singh, an IPS officer of the 2021 batch, has been given the additional responsibility of the Legal Cell alongside her role as DCP (Welfare). She is an astute officer who witnessed her father—Yogesh Pratap (YP) Singh, a 1985-batch IPS officer—face questions regarding his integrity, endure a decade-long struggle, and ultimately lose his police job. Isha Singh first studied law, practiced at the Bombay High Court, and then followed in her father’s footsteps to become an IPS officer.

The Success Story of IPS Isha Singh

Upon clearing the Union Public Service Commission (UPSC) Civil Services Examination, Isha Singh shared her success story on her LinkedIn profile. Let us hear her story in her own words:

“I am delighted to share that I have qualified for the Indian Police Service by securing the 191st rank nationwide in the UPSC Civil Services Examination 2020. Taking the country to new heights has always been my dream. I firmly believe that we possess the potential and the drive to become humane, compassionate, and socially responsible global leaders.”

Father Left the IPS Job to Practice Law

While sharing her success story on ‘Josh Talks,’ Isha Singh mentioned that her family hails from Uttar Pradesh. In 1993, her father was posted as SP, CBI (Mumbai). During this period, questions were raised about his integrity. He struggled for nearly a decade before resigning from the Indian Police Service to take up legal practice. Witnessing these events unfold in her father’s life, Isha Singh resolved to become an IPS officer herself and address the flaws within the system. Isha Singh’s ‘Lady Singham’ Persona in Puducherry

After cracking the UPSC 2020 exam, Isha Singh joined the IPS under the Arunachal Pradesh-Goa-Mizoram and Union Territories (AGMUT) cadre. Her ‘Lady Singham’ persona was witnessed during her posting in Puducherry on December 9, 2025, when she stood her ground firmly against TVK leader Bussi Anand while controlling an unruly crowd during a political rally. Subsequently, in January of the same year, seven IPS officers, including Isha Singh, were posted to Delhi.
