RRB JE Exam 2026: There is an important update for candidates preparing for recruitment to various posts in the Railways, including Junior Engineer (JE), Depot Material Superintendent (DMS), and Chemical & Metallurgical Assistant (CMA). The Railway Recruitment Board (RRB) has released a tentative schedule for the recruitment examination. According to this, the first stage Computer-Based Test (CBT-I) is scheduled to be held in October 2026.
When will the RRB JE CBT-I exam take place?
The CBT-I exam under the RRB JE recruitment 2026 is likely to be conducted on October 27, 28, and 30, 2026. Candidates appearing for the exam are advised to keep a close watch on the official RRB website for information regarding their exam date, city, and admit card.
How many days before the exam will the city slip be released?
According to the RRB notice, information regarding the exam city and date, along with the link to download the travel authority for SC and ST category candidates, will be made available on the official websites of all regional RRBs approximately 10 days before the exam.
Meanwhile, the e-call letter will be available for candidates to download approximately 4 days prior to the exam date.
Aadhaar-based biometric verification at the exam center
Aadhaar-linked biometric authentication of candidates will be conducted before entry into the exam center. For this, candidates must carry their original Aadhaar card or a printout of their e-verified Aadhaar.
The RRB has advised candidates to complete their identity verification via Aadhaar by logging into the relevant RRB website prior to the exam.
Aadhaar must be unlocked before the exam
Candidates must also ensure that their Aadhaar is unlocked in the UIDAI system before visiting the exam center. The Aadhaar card should contain updated details regarding name, date of birth, the latest photograph, and necessary biometric information. Additionally, the date of birth recorded in the Aadhaar card must match the date of birth mentioned in the 10th-grade certificate.
The RRB has advised candidates to rely solely on the official Railway Recruitment Board websites for any information regarding the recruitment. The Board has also urged candidates to beware of touts or brokers who might demand money in exchange for securing a job.
RRB JE CBT-I Exam Pattern
A total of 100 questions will be asked in the Stage-I Computer-Based Test (CBT) for the Junior Engineer recruitment, and the exam will carry a total of 100 marks.

Negative Marking for Incorrect Answers
There will be negative marking of 1/3rd of a mark for every incorrect answer in the CBT-I exam. Therefore, candidates must exercise caution while answering questions.
Minimum qualifying marks for CBT-I vary by category: 40% for Unreserved and EWS candidates, 30% for OBC-NCL and SC candidates, and 25% for ST candidates.
Only candidates who qualify in CBT-I will be called for the next stage of the recruitment process, i.e., the Stage-II exam. Details regarding this will be provided by the RRB along with the results.
