CG Flight Update: Direct air connectivity between Bilaspur and major metropolitan cities across the country has suffered another setback. Following the discontinuation of services to Bhopal, Indore, Jabalpur, and Ambikapur, the direct flight service between Bilaspur and Kolkata has now also been suspended. Operated by Alliance Air, this flight was cancelled citing low passenger numbers.
Questions Raised Regarding Bilaspur’s Air Connectivity
There have been numerous changes to flight services operating from Bilaspur in the past, ranging from schedule adjustments to route alterations. With the suspension of the direct Kolkata flight, concerns are now being raised regarding the city’s direct air connectivity to major metros from Bilasa Airport.
The ‘Hawai Suvidha Jansangharsh Samiti’ (Air Connectivity Public Struggle Committee) has also voiced its protest over this matter. The committee states that Bilaspur’s flight services are being consistently disrupted, causing inconvenience to passengers.
Route Was Previously Linked via Ambikapur
According to the committee, the direct flight from Bilaspur was previously modified to include a stopover at Ambikapur. This change increased travel time for passengers and nearly doubled the fare. Now, the direct Bilaspur-Kolkata flight has been cancelled entirely, citing low passenger volume.
Demand for Immediate Restoration of Flights
The committee has demanded the immediate restoration of the direct flight service to Kolkata. They argue that a significant city like Bilaspur requires better air connectivity with the country’s major metropolitan centers.
The committee also stated that they would meet with the state government regarding this issue. During the meeting, they intend to press for the strengthening of air services in Bilaspur and the resumption of the suspended direct flights.
