The government is set to implement a new rule regarding LPG subsidies starting October 1, 2026. Under this rule, customers must complete Aadhaar biometric authentication (BAA) to avail the subsidy benefit.
According to the new rule, only those customers who complete Aadhaar biometric authentication will be eligible for subsidized domestic LPG cylinders. If a customer does not undergo BAA, the supply of LPG cylinders will continue, but the subsidy amount will not be credited to their account.
Why has Aadhaar authentication been made mandatory?
The government has taken this step to make the LPG subsidy system more transparent and to prevent its misuse. Biometric authentication will be used to identify and verify domestic LPG connections. This will help curb duplicate connections and ensure that subsidy benefits reach genuine domestic consumers.
How to complete BAA for LPG subsidy?
Customers can use the following methods for Aadhaar biometric authentication:
- At the time of gas cylinder delivery
When the LPG cylinder is delivered to your home, the delivery agent can perform Aadhaar authentication using the respective oil company’s mobile app. - By visiting the gas agency
Customers can also complete BAA by visiting their nearest LPG distributor or gas agency showroom. - From home via mobile app
Authentication facilities are also available through the mobile apps of the respective LPG companies.
