Iran’s warning: Tensions appear to be escalating once again in West Asia. Iran has issued a stern warning to the US and its allies regarding potential new military action. In a statement released on Sunday, Iran’s Khatam al-Anbiya Central Headquarters declared that if the US or its allies undertake any new military action against Iran, the response would come in the form of sustained and effective strikes.
Warning to target US bases
According to ANI, the Iranian military command stated that in the event of any US military action, American bases and interests in West Asia would be targeted. Describing the potential strikes as severe and painful, the statement asserted that Iran would not observe any limits or constraints in its retaliatory actions.
Iran also warned nations that might support Washington in any potential US military action. According to the Iranian command, countries siding with the US would be considered participants in the conflict and should not expect any restraint from the Iranian military.
Accusations of US preparing for action
The Iranian military command has alleged that Washington is preparing for renewed military action against Tehran with the support of certain regional nations. However, there has been no specific, detailed response from the US regarding these Iranian claims.
Growing concerns over the Strait of Hormuz
Amid rising tensions in West Asia, concerns regarding the Strait of Hormuz have also intensified. It is one of the world’s key energy and maritime trade routes. Reports indicate that Iran continues to restrict most shipping through this waterway, stating that it will not be fully reopened until the conditions of the ceasefire agreement reached in June are met.
According to US Central Command, as part of efforts to enforce a naval blockade, US forces had diverted 109 commercial vessels by September 20.
Iran sets conditions following Trump’s warning
Meanwhile, US President Donald Trump has warned Iran to agree to a deal. According to reports, Trump stated that Iran could face serious consequences if an agreement is not reached.
Meanwhile, Iranian security chief Mohsen Rezaei said that Tehran has outlined its conditions for ending the conflict through Qatari mediation. These include halting hostilities, releasing frozen Iranian funds, and lifting the naval blockade.
US issues advisory following Houthi attacks
Amidst the tensions, there have also been claims of new attacks targeting Saudi Arabia by Iran-backed Houthi forces. These include claims of targeting Riyadh and an oil refinery in Yanbu, located on the Red Sea coast. Saudi Arabia has not immediately commented on these claims, although the Saudi-led coalition has reported thwarting other attacks.
In view of the escalating threat in the region, the US State Department advised American citizens present there to remain vigilant. The advisory urged them to be prepared for contingencies such as potential flight cancellations and airspace closures.
