Weather Update: Weather conditions are set to change across several parts of the country. According to the India Meteorological Department (IMD), a rain alert has been issued for 20 states and Union Territories today. Heavy rainfall is expected in several areas of East and Central India due to a low-pressure area over the Bay of Bengal. Meanwhile, the process of the monsoon’s withdrawal has also begun in parts of North India.
Clear weather in Delhi-NCR
No rain is expected in Delhi-NCR today; the sky is likely to remain mainly clear. The maximum temperature is expected to range between 34°C and 36°C, while the minimum temperature may hover around 23°C to 25°C. Warm conditions are likely to persist during this period.
Dry weather in Uttar Pradesh
The weather is likely to remain mainly dry across the eastern and western parts of Uttar Pradesh today. However, thunderstorms accompanied by rain may occur in some areas between September 25 and 27.
Heavy rain alert for Bihar
Heavy rainfall is expected in some places in Bihar today. Additionally, an alert for very heavy rainfall has been issued for parts of the state on September 24 and 25. The Meteorological Department has advised people to remain cautious.
Red alert for Odisha
The rainfall situation in Odisha remains critical. A ‘Red Alert’ for heavy to very heavy rainfall has been issued for several districts in the state. Extremely heavy rainfall is likely in Koraput, Gajapati, and Ganjam on September 23 and 24. Furthermore, a Red Alert is in effect for Kalahandi, Nabarangpur, and Malkangiri from September 24 to 25. In view of the heavy rain forecast, schools in several districts have been advised to remain closed.
Rain expected in these states as well
Heavy rain: Andhra Pradesh, Telangana, Maharashtra, West Bengal, and Arunachal Pradesh.
Moderate rain: Madhya Pradesh, Jharkhand, Assam, Meghalaya, Karnataka, Kerala, and Goa.
Light rain: Nagaland, Manipur, Mizoram, and Tripura.
Monsoon withdrawal begins in Rajasthan
The withdrawal of the monsoon has commenced in Rajasthan. The weather is expected to remain dry across most parts of the state. However, light rain may occur in some areas of the Kota and Udaipur divisions.
According to the Meteorological Department, a weather system formed over the Bay of Bengal is likely to sustain a spell of rainfall across Eastern and Central India over the next few days. Consequently, people in the states under alert have been advised to keep a close watch on weather updates.
