New Delhi: Google has introduced three new features in Chrome to simplify studying and help students prepare more effectively. These features include using Gemini to analyze audio-video content, creating interactive quizzes based on open tabs, and improving tab transfers between different devices.
According to Google, the new update allows Gemini within Chrome to help students understand study-related content and extract key information. Additionally, users can seamlessly resume their work from the exact same point when switching devices.
Gemini to analyze audio-video content
Gemini’s capabilities have been expanded in the desktop version of Chrome. It is no longer limited to YouTube; it can now analyze audio-video content such as podcasts, videos from other websites, and lecture recordings.
Students can use Gemini to locate specific information within content, grasp key points, and understand complex sections in simpler language. This makes it easier to comprehend long lectures or other study materials.
Interactive quizzes generated from open tabs
A second new Chrome feature assists students with test preparation. It can generate interactive quizzes based on the content found in open tabs.
According to Google, this feature works with study materials such as notes in Google Docs, research papers, and lecture videos. Chrome identifies key concepts within the content and creates relevant questions, allowing students to self-assess their preparation and understanding of the subject.
Currently, this feature is being rolled out on desktops in the US and India in English. Support for other regions and mobile devices will be added in the coming months.
Seamless workflow between laptops and phones
Google has also improved tab sharing between devices in Chrome. Now, when transferring a tab from a laptop to a phone (or vice versa), the tab’s current state is preserved. This includes the webpage’s scroll position as well as any information entered into a partially filled-out form. In other words, after opening the tab on another device, the user won’t need to start over; they can pick up exactly where they left off.
Tools in Chrome to Keep Studies Organized
Chrome offers several existing features that help keep study materials organized. With “Tab Groups,” users can group tabs related to specific courses, subjects, or projects together.
The “Split View” feature allows two webpages to be opened on the screen simultaneously. For instance, a user can view reference material on one side while working on an assignment on the other. Paired tabs allow users to easily return to that same side-by-side workspace later.
Reading and Listening Made Easier with Reading Tools
Chrome’s “Reading Tools” also facilitate the consumption of online study materials. “Immersive Reading” mode simplifies the reading experience by removing distracting visual elements from the webpage. Users can also customize settings such as font, letter spacing, and contrast.
Additionally, Chrome can read webpage content aloud. Android’s “AI Playback” feature offers the option to listen to text as a podcast-style conversation. Ultimately, Google Chrome’s new AI capabilities and existing reading tools focus on making studying, revision, and online research more convenient for students.
