Shreyas Iyer has now reached the seventh spot with 786 rating points. This marks the best ranking of his T20 International career; previously, he held the 25th position with 611 rating points.
Ishan Kishan at No. 1, Abhishek Sharma at No. 2
Amidst the ongoing T20 series between India and the West Indies, the ICC has released the latest player rankings. India’s Ishan Kishan retains the top spot among batters with 902 rating points, while Indian opener Abhishek Sharma holds the second position with 887 rating points.
There has been a slight dip in Ishan Kishan’s rating—he had previously reached 916 points—but he has managed to maintain the number one spot.
Huge boost from the 102-run knock
In the first T20 match against the West Indies, Shreyas Iyer scored an unbeaten 102 off just 43 balls. His innings included 10 fours and 6 sixes. This is Iyer’s maiden century in T20 International cricket.
His magnificent innings had an immediate impact on his rankings. Iyer jumped 18 places in a single update, moving from 25th to 7th place. In doing so, he has also significantly surpassed his previous career-best rating.
Chance to break into the top 5
Four more matches are yet to be played in the T20 series between India and the West Indies. In this scenario, Shreyas Iyer has the opportunity to further improve his ranking. If he succeeds in playing big innings in the upcoming matches as well, he could potentially break into the top five batsmen.
Meanwhile, West Indies captain Shai Hope has also gained one spot in the rankings and has now moved up to the 13th position.
