IPL 2027 Mini-Auction: The mini-auction for players for the 2027 IPL season will be held in Goa on December 16. Ahead of this, all 10 franchises must submit a list by November 15, specifying which players they intend to retain and which ones they will release. Approximately one week before the auction, teams will be provided with the final list of players and the bidding order. Interestingly, the second ODI match between India and Sri Lanka is also scheduled to take place in Bengaluru on the same day.
Two Player Trades So Far
Information regarding two player trades for the 2027 IPL season has emerged. In the first trade, the Lucknow Super Giants have traded their captain, Rishabh Pant, to the Delhi Capitals, with Kuldeep Yadav moving to the Lucknow side in exchange.
In the second trade, the Delhi Capitals have traded fast bowler T. Natarajan to the Sunrisers Hyderabad. In return, young leg-spinner Zeeshan Ansari has joined the Delhi team. Zeeshan has not yet played international cricket and falls under the category of ‘uncapped’ players.
According to IPL regulations, the player trade window opens approximately one month after the conclusion of a season and remains active until one week before the mini-auction. The window then reopens about a month before the start of the following season.
Awaiting the IPL 2027 Schedule
The official dates for the entire 2027 IPL season have not yet been announced. Previously, in 2024, a tentative timeline for the next three seasons was released, which proposed that the 2027 tournament would take place between March 14 and May 30. However, in September, BCCI Secretary Devajit Saikia indicated that the tournament might begin in the last week of March. Mega Auction to be Held Before IPL 2028
Some of the recent IPL auctions have been held abroad. The 2024 auction took place in Dubai, the 2025 auction in Jeddah, and the 2026 auction in Abu Dhabi. Hosting auctions overseas entails significant expenditure for franchises, covering accommodation, transportation, and other arrangements for officials, owners, and coaching staff.
Since fewer players are bid on during a mini-auction compared to a mega-auction, the logistics and costs associated with such events often become a subject of discussion. Meanwhile, plans are in place to conduct a mega-auction before IPL 2028, which could provide teams with an opportunity to make major changes to their player compositions.
