Centre on alert to deal with Cyclone ‘Arnab’; Amit Shah speaks to Chief Ministers of 3 states, including Chhattisgarh; NDRF teams deployed.

New Delhi: In view of the impact of Cyclone Arnab, the central government and state administrations have intensified preparations for relief and rescue operations. Union Home Minister Amit Shah has reached out to the Chief Ministers of the affected states to assess the situation and has assured them of all possible assistance. Meanwhile, teams from the National Disaster Response Force (NDRF) and State Disaster Response Force (SDRF) have been deployed in the affected areas to carry out relief and rescue operations.

Alert in four states; central government maintaining close watch

Given the potential impact of the cyclone, the administrations in Andhra Pradesh, Odisha, Telangana, Chhattisgarh, and Puducherry have been put on high alert. The central government, while coordinating closely with the respective states, has emphasized ensuring public safety, facilitating safe evacuations, and restoring essential services as quickly as possible.

Anticipation of significant damage in Andhra Pradesh

The coastal regions of Andhra Pradesh have borne the brunt of the cyclone. Reports indicate damage to crops, power infrastructure, roads, and public property due to high-velocity winds and heavy rainfall. Chief Minister N. Chandrababu Naidu has requested the central government to dispatch a central team to assess the damage and provide assistance for relief, rehabilitation, and reconstruction efforts.

NDRF and SDRF teams engaged in relief operations

Disaster management teams are working in the affected areas to relocate people to safer locations and address emergency situations. Arrangements are being made to provide food, drinking water, and medical facilities in relief camps. The central government has also kept teams from the Army, Navy, Air Force, and the Indian Coast Guard on standby to provide assistance if needed.

High alert in Odisha and Chhattisgarh

In anticipation of rainfall caused by the cyclone in the southern districts of Odisha and the southern and central regions of Chhattisgarh, the respective administrations have been instructed to remain vigilant. Preparations have been made to monitor vulnerable areas, ensure the availability of relief resources, and relocate residents to safer locations should the need arise. Officials have been instructed to remain prepared for the prompt restoration of electricity, roads, and other essential services.

Prioritizing Public Safety and the Restoration of Essential Services

Following the cyclone, the administration’s primary focus is to deliver relief to those affected and restore normalcy to daily life. To this end, coordination is being maintained between the central and state governments. Citizens are advised to heed warnings issued by the meteorological department, avoid venturing into the sea, and stay away from high-risk areas.

The central government has clarified that, in the event of a disaster, relevant agencies will work in close coordination to provide necessary assistance to the affected states and to minimize the loss of life and property.
