CPI does not have any MP from Jharkhand in the Lok Sabha. CPI state secretary Mahendra Pathak told PTI, “We have decided to contest the Lok Sabha elections on our own .” He said, “BJP (Bharatiya Janata Party) has announced its candidates. , but Congress and the ‘Grand Alliance’ have not yet held any talks on seat sharing. That’s why we have decided to contest the elections alone.

He said that this decision was taken in the party’s State Executive Committee meeting here. CPI will field its candidates in Ranchi, Hazaribagh, Koderma, Chatra, Palamu, Giridih, Dumka and Jamshedpur Lok Sabha constituencies. Pathak said that the names of the candidates will be announced after March 16. Meanwhile, Jharkhand Mukti Morcha (JMM), which leads the ruling coalition in Jharkhand, said that this decision of the state unit of CPI raises questions on discipline within the party.

JMM spokesperson Manoj Pandey said, ‘It is beyond my understanding… whether the state unit can take such decisions. Discussion on seat sharing is already going on at the national level. Of the 14 Lok Sabha seats in the state, Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) has 11, All Jharkhand Students Union (AJSU) has one, JMM has one and Congress has one. However, the only Congress MP Geeta Koda had recently joined BJP.
