Azim Premji’s Legacy:Â Azim Premji is a personality of the Indian business world who needs no introduction. He lifted Wipro from the status of an FMCG company to a leading IT company of the country. Azim Premji took charge of Wipro at the age of just 21 and made it a company worth Rs 2.70 lakh crore. After this he retired and started doing charitable work. He also made his mark in the whole world in social service work. He handed over the command of the company to his son Rishad Premji. Wipro Chairman Rishad Premji took only Rs 8 crore as salary for the financial year 2022-23. This is half his salary. He took this because of the decline in the earnings of Wipro IT Services.

Azim Premji is the most generous person of India
Azim Premji has the status of being the most generous person of India. He is recognized for his vision and charitable work. Before retiring, he was included in the list of the richest men of the country for almost two decades. According to the Edelgive Hurun Philanthropy List 2023 (Hurun India), last year alone Azim Premji and his family had donated approximately Rs 1774 crore. His son Rishad Premji also has the same qualities as his father. When he saw that the company was in trouble, he himself halved his salary.Â
Rishad Premji took command of Wipro in 2007
After leading Wipro for 53 years, Azim Premji handed it over to his son Rishad Premji. Rishad Premji joined Wipro in the year 2007. Before becoming the executive chairman in the year 2019, he worked in many positions. After studying Economics from Wesleyan University, he did MBA from Harvard University. Rishad has also been the chairman of NASSCOM. Now he is handling the global company Wipro, in which about 2.50 lakh people currently work.
Salary reduced to half due to company’s poor performance
Rishad Premji lives in Bengaluru with his wife and two children. He took a salary of only Rs 8 crore ($951,353) for the financial year 2022-23. Due to the negative performance of Wipro IT Services business, he himself had decided to take half his salary. Even during Covid-19, Rishad had cut his salary by 31 percent. Rishad Premji is also on the boards of Wipro Enterprises, Wipro GE and Azim Premji Foundation.
