Lok Sabha Elections 2024: Fate of Rahul Gandhi, Rajnath Singh, and Smriti Irani to Be Decided in Fifth Phase| Spotlight on VIP Seats Nationwide

Lok Sabha Elections 2024: Voting for the fifth phase of Lok Sabha elections is to be held on Monday (20th May). In this phase, 695 candidates are in the fray for 49 Lok Sabha seats in eight states. The fate of many prominent leaders including Rahul Gandhi, Rajnath Singh, Smriti Irani, Chirag Paswan and Rohini Acharya will be decided in the fifth phase. Let’s take a look at those major VIP seats where voting is to be held on Monday.

Rahul Gandhi: 

Congress leader Rahul Gandhi is contesting the Lok Sabha elections from Rae Bareli seat of UP this time . Sonia Gandhi has been winning elections from this seat continuously since 2004. However, now Congress has fielded Rahul from here. BJP has given ticket to Dinesh Pratap Singh against him. Apart from this, Rahul Gandhi is also a candidate from Wayanad seat, where voting has already taken place.

Rajnath Singh: 

Union Defence Minister and senior BJP leader Rajnath Singh is contesting from Lucknow seat for the third consecutive time. SP has given ticket to Ravidas Mehrotra as India Alliance candidate from here.

Smriti Irani: 

BJP has given ticket to Union Minister Smriti Irani from Amethi seat of UP for the third consecutive time. She lost to Rahul Gandhi in the 2014 elections, but in 2019 there was a big upset here and Smriti Irani defeated Rahul Gandhi. BJP has again shown confidence in Smriti Irani. At the same time, Congress has given ticket to KL Sharma, close to the Gandhi family, against her.

Omar Abdullah: 

National Conference’s Omar Abdullah is trying his luck from Baramulla Lok Sabha seat. His main rival is Sajjad Gani Lone of People’s Conference and independent Engineer Rashid.

Rohini Acharya: 

RJD supremo Lalu Prasad Yadav’s daughter Rohini Acharya is trying her luck from Saran Lok Sabha seat in this election. She is pitted against BJP candidate Rajiv Pratap Rudy, who has been elected MP from here twice in a row.

Piyush Goyal: 

BJP has given ticket to Union Minister Piyush Goyal from Mumbai North Lok Sabha seat. He is contesting against Congress candidate Bhushan Patil. Let us tell you that Piyush Goyal is contesting Lok Sabha elections for the first time.

Chirag Paswan: 

Chirag Paswan is in the fray from Hajipur Lok Sabha seat of Bihar. His father late Ram Vilas Paswan was elected MP from here eight times. RJD has fielded Shivchandra Ram from this seat.

Karan Bhushan Singh: 

BJP has given ticket to Karan Bhushan Singh, son of Brij Bhushan Sharan Singh from UP’s Kaiserganj Lok Sabha seat. He is contesting against SP candidate Bhagat Ram.

In the fifth phase, Union Minister Niranjan Jyoti is in the fray from Fatehpur seat, besides, the fate of prominent personalities like Kaushal Kishore from Mohanlalganj seat, Shrikant Eknath Shinde from Kalyan Lok Sabha seat of Maharashtra , Locket Chatterjee from Hooghly Lok Sabha seat of West Bengal, Lallu Singh and Ujjwal Nikam from Faizabad Lok Sabha seat is to be decided.
