Jammu Bus Accident: A bus carrying pilgrims fell into a 150 feet deep gorge in Akhnoor, Jammu on Thursday afternoon. 22 people died in the accident. 69 people are injured. The death toll may increase.
The injured have been admitted to Akhnoor Hospital in Jammu and Government Medical College Hospital in Jammu.

The accident took place on the Jammu-Poonch highway. A police officer said that about 90 people from Hathras in Uttar Pradesh and Rajasthan were travelling in the bus. All of them were going from Hathras to Shiv Khodi. Rescue operation is underway. The reason for the accident is not yet known.
Here, the central government has announced to give Rs 2 lakh each to the families of the deceased. Whereas, Rs 50 thousand will be given to the injured.

PM Modi, President Murmu express grief
Prime Minister Narendra Modi and President Draupadi Murmu have expressed grief over the incident. President Murmu wrote on Twitter, “Saddened to learn about the loss of lives in a bus accident in Akhnoor near Jammu. My deepest condolences to the families of the deceased. I pray for the speedy recovery of the injured.”
Perhaps the driver fell asleep- Transport Commissioner
Rajinder Singh Tara said, “The bus was going towards Shiv Khori. The turn here is very normal. There should not have been any problem here but perhaps the driver fell asleep. Instead of turning, the bus went straight and then fell down.”
Army’s quick reaction medical team deployed
There were about 50 passengers in the bus. The accident took place about 15 km from Akhnoor city, when the bus suddenly slipped off the road and fell into a deep gorge. The Indian Army has deployed Quick Reaction Medical Team. They are helping the administration in the rescue operation. The injured persons are being evacuated from the accident site and all possible help is being provided.
The Lieutenant Governor said – it is a heart-wrenching incident
Lieutenant Governor Manoj Sinha has expressed grief over this accident. The Lieutenant Governor’s office said, “The bus accident in Akhnoor, Jammu is heart-wrenching. I express condolences on the deaths in this accident and pray to God to give strength to the bereaved families to bear this irreparable loss. I wish for the speedy recovery of the injured.”
PDP chief Mehbooba Mufti has expressed grief over the accident. She said, “Sad news is coming from Akhnoor, where sixteen people have died in a tragic bus accident. Deepest sympathy and condolences to their families and loved ones.”
A similar accident had happened 6 months ago
On 15 November 2023, a bus fell into a 300 feet deep gorge in Assar area of Doda district of Jammu and Kashmir. 38 people including 9 women died in the accident. The bus was going from Kishtwar to Jammu. Along with the police and SDRF teams, the local people also did the relief and rescue work.
The bus was badly damaged so it had to be cut to take out the dead bodies and the injured. The injured were admitted to Kishtwar District Hospital and Government Medical College (GMC) in Doda. Some people were airlifted to Jammu.

At the same time, helpline numbers have been issued by the Hathras district administration to help the victim families. District Magistrate Archana Verma has given information that the bus that met with an accident in Jammu and Kashmir is from Hathras. DC Jammu has been talked to in this regard. A team has been formed to help the people, which will contact the Jammu and Kashmir administration and help. Helpline numbers have also been issued for this. Let us tell you that today on 30th May at around 12 noon, a bus carrying devotees from UP and Rajasthan from Kurukshetra Haryana to Shivkhodi, Pauni, whose registration number is UP 86 EC 4078, overturned near Tungi Mor (Chauki Chaura) under Police Station Akhnoor. The information of the injured persons in this regard is as follows.

(5) Yagusha (age 32 years) wife of Dharamveer resident of Varmunda, Bharatpur, Rajasthan
(6) Rajwati (age 59 years) wife of Satveer resident of Bharatpur, Rajasthan
(7) Shanti (age 65 years) wife of Mohinder resident of Aligarh, Uttar Pradesh
(8) Bilal Devi (age 50 years) wife of Gautam resident of Aligarh, U.P.
(9) Radhika (age 28 years) wife of Pawan Kumar resident of Aligarh, U.P.

(21) Raghuveer Singh (age about 70 years) son of Hardani Singh, resident of Uttar Pradesh
Apart from this, a minor girl aged about 07/08 years, an unidentified woman aged about 50 years and an unidentified man aged about 60 years were injured. Apart from this, some more injured persons are expected to be shifted to SDH Akhnoor. However, 10/12 of the above injured persons have been referred to GMC Jammu from SDH Akhnoor after initial treatment.
CM Yogi took cognizance of the accident
UP CM Yogi Adityanath has taken cognizance of the road accident in Jammu and Kashmir. He expressed condolences to the bereaved families of the deceased and expressed grief and wished for the speedy recovery of the injured. CM Yogi has instructed senior UP officials to immediately contact the Jammu officials and issued orders for necessary assistance.

Regarding this accident, Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister CM Yogi Adityanath posted on Twitter and wrote – “The loss of life in an unfortunate bus accident in Jammu and Kashmir is extremely sad. My condolences to the bereaved people who lost their loved ones in this accident. Senior officials of Uttar Pradesh have been instructed to maintain constant contact with the officials of Jammu and Kashmir. I pray to Lord Shri Ram to give place to the departed souls in his lotus feet and speedy recovery to the injured.”
