Sadhguru Jaggi Vasudev:Â Madras High Court questioned Sadhguru Jaggi Vasudev of Isha Foundation on his teachings. Madras High Court Justice SM Subramaniam and Justice V Shivagnanam asked him on Monday (30 September) during a hearing why he is asking young women to adopt the ways of sannyas?
Madras High Court asked that when Sadhguru’s own daughter is married and leading a good life, then why is he encouraging other young women to shave their heads, renounce worldly life and lead a life of a sanyasi in his yoga centers?

While hearing which case did the High Court make this comment?
These questions were raised during the hearing of a habeas corpus petition filed by S Kamaraj, a retired professor of an agricultural university in Coimbatore, in the High Court. The petitioner claimed that his two educated daughters have been brainwashed and kept in the yoga center of Isha Foundation.
According to the petitioner, the ages of his two daughters are 42 and 39 years. However, the two girls who were allegedly held captive approached the Madras High Court on 30 September. During this, they told the bench that they are living in the Yoga Center in Coimbatore of their own free will and no one has held them captive.
‘It is necessary to get to the bottom of the matter’
However, the Madras High Court, after talking to the young women for some time, decided to investigate the issue further. Shocked by this decision of the High Court, the lawyer of Isha Foundation said that the court cannot expand the scope of this case. To this, Justice Subramaniam replied that complete justice is expected from the court using the writ jurisdiction under Article 226 of the Constitution and it is necessary to get to the bottom of the matter.
The High Court said the court had certain doubts regarding the case. When the lawyer sought to know what they were, Justice Sivagnanam said, “We want to know why a man who married off his daughter and settled her well in life is encouraging the daughters of others to shave their heads and lead the life of ascetics?”
Responding to this, the lawyer said that an adult person has the right to choose his life and he is unable to understand this doubt. In response to this, the High Court said that you will not be able to understand this, because you are appearing on behalf of the party (Sadhguru Jaggi Vasudev) in this case, but this court is neither in favor of anyone nor against anyone.
‘Ignoring parents is also a sin’
During the hearing, when the girls demanded to give their statement, the Madras High Court asked them, “You are talking about following the path of spirituality. Is it not a sin to ignore your parents? The essence of devotion is to love everyone and not hate anyone, but we are seeing a lot of hatred in you for your family members. You are not even talking to them with respect.”
The lawyer appearing on behalf of the petitioner said that several criminal cases are going on against Isha Foundation and recently a case has been registered under the POCSO Act against a doctor working there.
‘Our lives have become like hell’
The petitioner has said in the petition that his daughter obtained an MTech degree from Britain and was earning Rs 1 lakh per month. In 2007, she married a man from Britain, but got divorced in 2008. Only after this, she started participating in the yoga center of Isha Foundation. Seeing her, his younger daughter also started staying in the yoga center.
The petitioner said that ever since my daughters have left us, my and my wife’s life has become like hell. He alleged that some kind of food or medicine was being given to his daughters in the yoga center, due to which they lost their thinking power.
