Zimbabwe Shatters Records with Historic T20 Win: 7 World Records, 4 Taken from India, 282 Runs from Boundaries!

Zimbabwe World Record: Zimbabwe first made the record of scoring the highest total in T20 cricket. Then the team also made the record of achieving the biggest win.

Zimbabwe World Record Of Winning By Highest Runs Margin: Zimbabwe first put the biggest total of T20 cricket on the board and then made a world record by achieving the biggest win in the format. Zimbabwe did this feat in the match played against Gambia in the Men’s T20 World Cup Sub Regional Africa Qualifier Group B 2024. In the match, Zimbabwe won by such a big margin that such a big total is not seen in T20 cricket easily. 

Zimbabwe won the match against Gambia by 290 runs. This was not only the biggest victory in T20 International but also in the history of T20 cricket. Batting first in the match, Zimbabwe scored 344/4 runs in 20 overs. This was the highest total in the history of T20 cricket. Earlier, Nepal had the record of scoring the highest total in T20 cricket. Nepal scored 314/3 runs in 20 overs. 

Sikandar Raza scored the second fastest century 

In the match, Zimbabwe captain Sikandar Raza batted brilliantly and scored 133 runs in 43 balls with the help of 7 fours and 15 sixes, in which his strike rate was 309.30. During this, Sikandar Raza completed his century in 33 balls, which was jointly the second fastest century in T20 International.

This is how Zimbabwe won the match 

In the match, Zimbabwe batted first and scored 344/4 runs in 20 overs. During this, Sikandar Raza played an innings of 133 runs. Apart from this, wicketkeeper batsman Tadivanashe Marumani, who came as an opener, scored 62 runs in 19 balls with the help of 9 fours and 4 sixes. During this, his strike rate was 326.32. Apart from this, Clive Madande scored 53* with the help of 3 fours and 5 sixes in 17 balls and Brian Bennett, who came as an opener, scored 50 runs in 26 balls with 7 fours and 1 six. 

Then Gambia’s team, which came out to chase the target, was all out for just 54 runs in 14.4 overs. Only one batsman for the team crossed the double-digit mark and made a high score of 12 runs.

Here are the seven world records set by Zimbabwe in the T20 International match against Gambia during the ICC T20 World Cup Qualifier:

    Zimbabwe scored 344 runs, surpassing India’s previous record of 297 runs against Bangladesh.
  2. Most Runs Scored from Boundaries:
    Zimbabwe scored 282 runs from boundaries (fours and sixes), breaking India’s record of 232 runs from boundaries in a T20 match against Bangladesh.
  3. Most Boundaries in a T20 Innings:
    Zimbabwe hit 57 boundaries (including 27 sixes and 30 fours), surpassing India’s previous record of 47 boundaries in a match.
  4. Most Sixes in a T20 Innings:
    Zimbabwe hit 27 sixes in the match, surpassing Nepal’s record of 26 sixes against Mongolia.
  5. Fastest Century by a Player from a Test-Playing Nation in T20 Internationals:
    Captain Sikandar Raza scored a century in just 33 balls, breaking the previous record of 35 balls held by India’s Rohit Sharma and South Africa’s David Miller.
  6. Biggest Win Margin in T20 Internationals:
    Zimbabwe won the match by 290 runs, which is the largest victory margin in T20 cricket history.
  7. Fastest Team to Reach 200 Runs in T20 Internationals:
    Zimbabwe reached 200 runs in just 12.5 overs, breaking South Africa’s previous record of achieving 200 runs in 13.5 overs.
