Diesel in Petrol Cars: Why don’t cars run on kerosene instead of diesel? What will happen if wrong fuel accidentally gets in the car?

Diesel in Petrol Cars: What will happen if your mistake is to buy diesel instead of petrol and petrol instead of diesel? Read the full news and know how to deal with it if such a situation happens to you too.

Diesel in Petrol Cars: Any diesel vehicle cannot be driven by filling it with petrol or diesel in a petrol car, but sometimes while filling fuel, due to your distraction or confusion to the petrol pump employee, wrong fuel may be filled in your car. Due to a small mistake, there is a risk of filling petrol in the diesel tank and diesel in the petrol tank.

In such a situation, if this ever happens to you too, then you must know about what problems it can cause to your vehicle’s engine and you should also know what you can do if such a mistake ever happens.

What did the go mechanic say?

Go Mechanic, a startup car servicing company, has clarified both the situations through a blog. One situation is that your car is with petrol engine and diesel should be put in its tank and in the other situation, petrol should be filled in the tank of the car with diesel engine. Precautions in both these situations have been explained in Go Mechanic’s blog.

What will happen when diesel is filled in a petrol car?

Filling diesel in a petrol car is not very harmful, in such a situation you should not start the engine even by mistake. This will not cause any damage to the car. However, if the amount of diesel in the vehicle’s tank is less than 5%, it will not make any difference, in such a situation you can drive your vehicle.

But if this quantity is more then it can cause big problems. If there is more than five percent diesel in the tank, it would be best not to start the engine and immediately call the nearest mechanic and get the entire tank emptied.

But if you drive the car for some time, then in this situation you will have to clean the entire engine after emptying the tank completely.

What will happen when petrol is filled in a diesel car?

If petrol is poured into a diesel engine, when petrol gets mixed with diesel, it starts acting as a solvent, which has adverse effects on the engine of the vehicle. Because diesel not only provides power to the car, it also acts as a lubrication oil.

Due to spilling of petrol in a diesel car, the friction between the parts of the machine increases and due to this the pump along with the fuel line gets affected. In such a situation, if you keep the engine running or drive the car even after filling petrol, then the chances of the car engine getting damaged or seized increases.

Therefore, whenever you accidentally get petrol in your car instead of diesel, immediately take roadside assistance service and take the car to a mechanic, otherwise you will have to spend a huge amount if the engine seizes.

Why don’t cars run on kerosene instead of diesel?

The primary reason is that gasoline burns more quickly, and it vaporizes more easily and burns completely. Moreover, it is much cleaner than kerosene.

Kerosene is slightly cheaper than diesel and it is less efficient. It burns at a higher temperature before vaporizing, which means it is not as easy to burn as petrol and diesel. Therefore kerosene is not used as fuel for automobiles.
