Mobile Tariff Hike: The country’s three largest telecom companies Reliance Jio, Bharti Airtel and Vodafone Idea have announced to increase the mobile tariff. These companies have introduced new plans by increasing the mobile tariff. After this increase, the burden of expenditure on mobile tariff is going to increase on the customers.

According to a report by ET, after this increase in tariff, an additional burden of Rs 47,500 crore is expected to increase on the customers annually. In the recent past, telecom companies have invested heavily to provide 5G network to customers in the country. Now customers will have to pay 71 percent more fee to avail 5G service. However, if the companies had increased the average revenue per user (ARPU) by 15 to 17 percent, they would have recovered their cost.

You will have to pay more money for 5G service

According to the report of Economic Times, Reliance Jio and Bharti Airtel customers will have to spend more money than before to avail 5G service. Jio customers will have to spend 46 percent more money than before for 5G service. Whereas for Bharti Airtel users this expense is more than 71 percent.

According to the new tariff plan, Reliance Jio users will now have to pay Rs 349 for 2GB data per day. Earlier, customers used to get 1.5GB data per day on the base pack of Rs 239. On the other hand, Airtel users will now have to pay Rs 409 for 2.5GB data per day. Earlier, customers had to pay only Rs 239 for 1.5GB data.

According to the estimate of Goldman Sachs, the report says that after Jio’s decision to increase the tariff plan, the average revenue per user (ARPU) is expected to increase by 17 percent. At the same time, Airtel has decided to increase its mobile tariff plan by 11 to 21 percent. Apart from this, Vodafone and Idea have also increased their tariff plans by 10 to 23 percent. Mobile telecom companies had not increased mobile tariff since December 2021.

Bharti Airtel increased its telecom tariffs rates by 10-21% on June 28, a day after rival Reliance Jio announced hikes ranging from 12% to 25% on its mobile plans, marking the first increase in prices since December 2021.

The new tariff will be effective July 3. “We have ensured that there is a very modest price increase (less than 70p per day) on the entry level plans, in order to eliminate any burden on budget challenged consumers,” Bharti Airtel said in its statement.
