At least 24 people, including a five-month-old infant, were killed and over 50 injured in two separate road accidents in Andhra Pradesh and Madhya Pradesh on Thursday.
In Andhra Pradesh’s Markapuram district, 14 passengers died when a private bus carrying 41 people rammed a gravel-laden truck and burst into flames early morning. Most victims, including women and construction workers, were burnt alive. Twenty-two people were injured, with identification of bodies underway through DNA profiling.
In Madhya Pradesh, 10 people, including a child, were killed and 31 injured when a bus collided head-on with a pick-up vehicle in Chhindwara. Several injured remain critical.
Prime Minister Narendra Modi, President Droupadi Murmu and chief ministers expressed grief and announced compensation, while ordering probes and ensuring medical care for the injured.
