Shocking Lancet Study: Half of Indians Physically Unfit, 60% at Risk of Illness!

Lancet Health Study: A recent study by Lancet has said that if Indians continue to ignore physical activity like this, then soon more than sixty percent of people may fall ill.

Lancet Health Study: A recent Lancet study says that more than half of the Indian population is not physically active. The Lancet study has expressed concern over Indians being physically unfit and said that the day is not far when more than sixty percent of the Indian population will fall prey to problems caused by lack of physical activity. This study published in Global Health says that more than half of India’s population is not able to meet the guidelines of adequate physical activity set by the World Health Organization (WHO).

What does the Lancet study say?

The Lancet study says that Indian women are more physically inactive than men. Physical inactivity among men is 42 percent while the percentage of women in this regard is 57 percent. This clearly means that Indian women are not able to remain physically active.

The study says that while inadequate physical activity in the country was 22.3 percent in 2000, it has increased to more than 49 percent in 2022. This is a clear indication that by 2030, about 60 percent of India’s population will become physically unfit and will start falling prey to diseases caused by lack of physical activity.

Physically active every day to stay healthy

health perspective, it is important to be physically active every day to stay healthy. The World Health Organization recommends 150 to 300 minutes of physical activity every week to stay healthy. If someone cannot do 150 minutes of moderate activity, then he needs to do 70 minutes of intense activity.

Overall, doing physical activity every day is essential for good health. WHO says that if physical activity is not done, the body can be at risk of cardiovascular diseases such as heart attack and stroke as well as diseases like diabetes 2, dementia and cancer. Lancet conducted a study in 195 countries for this study of physical activity. During this time, India is ranked 12th in the world in terms of physical activity and unfit health.
