Delhi Liquor Policy Case: Aam Aadmi Party MP Sanjay Singh has been granted bail by the Supreme Court. While hearing Sanjay Singh’s bail plea on Tuesday, the Supreme Court had asked several questions to the Enforcement Directorate (ED). The Supreme Court had asked the ED that Sanjay Singh has been in jail for 6 months and no money was recovered from him. Even now the ED wants to keep Sanjay Singh in custody. Why is it necessary to keep him in custody? The Supreme Court will now hear the case again at 2 o’clock.
Sanjay Singh’s lawyer Abhishek Manu Singhvi said that there was no statement against him. His name was never mentioned as an accused in the charge sheet. Only on two occasions it was said that Rs 1 crore was taken. All the allegations are completely baseless. During the hearing of this case, the ED did not oppose the bail plea. The Supreme Court said that the lower court will decide the conditions of bail.
The AAP leader had moved the Supreme Court in February challenging the Delhi High Court order which denied him bail in the money laundering case related to the Delhi liquor scam. On February 7, the Delhi High Court had rejected the bail plea of Singh, who has been re-elected to the Rajya Sabha from Delhi, but directed the trial court to expedite the trial once it begins.
The ED had claimed in the high court that Singh was a key conspirator in the alleged scam and had received proceeds of crime to the tune of Rs 2 crore.
