Sanjay Singh got a big relief from the Supreme Court
The Supreme Court granted bail to Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) leader and Rajya Sabha member Sanjay Singh on Tuesday in the money laundering case related to the Delhi Excise Policy scam. Earlier, the Enforcement Directorate had said that it has no objection if Singh is granted bail in the case. The Aam Aadmi Party has got some relief during the Lok Sabha election campaign due to the bail of the Rajya Sabha member.
Bail has been granted on the basis of conditions
The court has granted bail to Sanjay Singh on the basis of certain conditions. These conditions mainly include surrendering the passport and informing the ED about his schedule before going anywhere. While granting bail, the court has said that Sanjay Singh will have to surrender his passport. Also, if Sanjay Singh goes out of NCR, he will have to first inform the ED about his schedule.
During this time, Sanjay Singh will give his phone number to ED which will be available continuously. As long as Sanjay Singh is out on bail, he will not make any comment on the liquor policy issue. Sanjay Singh’s wife has filled the bail bond in the court on a personal bond of Rs 2 lakh.Â
What is the new liquor policy scam case?
While heading the Excise Department of Delhi, Manish Sisodia announced the new excise policy in March 2021. He had said that under the new policy, the government will have no role in the sale of liquor. Only private shops will be allowed to sell liquor. For this, shops will be opened in a minimum area of ​​500 square feet and no counter of the shop will be on the road. The goods of liquor shops will be sold in Delhi, he had hoped to increase the revenue by Rs 1500-2000 crore from the new policy.Â
The new policy said that the total number of liquor shops in Delhi would remain 850 as before. Under Delhi’s new liquor sales policy, home delivery of liquor and shops being allowed to remain open till 3 am were allowed. Licensees could also offer unlimited discounts on liquor. After this, the new liquor policy was implemented in November 2021.
Sanjay Singh was arrested on the basis of Dinesh Arora’s statement
When ED filed a charge sheet regarding the alleged liquor scam, in that charge sheet ED had called Dinesh Arora, who is an accused, as its approver. Sanjay Singh was mentioned in Dinesh Arora’s statement. Sanjay Singh was not made an accused by ED earlier. Sanjay Singh was made an accused later.
Dinesh Arora had said in his statement that just before the assembly elections, Sanjay Singh, through Dinesh Arora and along with other liquor businessmen, held a meeting with Manish Sisodia. This meeting took place in a restaurant in CP.
What has ED accused Sanjay Singh of?
The Enforcement Directorate had accused Sanjay Singh of introducing Dinesh Arora and other liquor businessmen to Manish Sisodia. During this meeting, Manish Sisodia assured the liquor businessmen present in the meeting that when his government is formed again, he will make such a liquor policy that will benefit those liquor businessmen.
