Ahmedabad police have solved a jewellery store theft case involving a 19-year-old accused who allegedly broke into a shop late at night and stole valuables worth several lakhs. The case was cracked after the युवक made a series of mistakes that eventually led investigators straight to him.
The theft took place at a jewellery shop located in a busy market area of the city. According to police officials, the accused carried out the break-in during the late night hours when the market was shut. He allegedly cut open the shop shutter using tools and entered the store, targeting gold and silver ornaments kept inside display counters.
The shop owner discovered the theft the next morning when he opened the store and noticed the broken shutter and empty jewellery trays. He immediately informed the police, following which a team was formed to investigate the case.
CCTV footage from nearby shops and street cameras showed a young man moving suspiciously in the area late at night with his face partially covered. The footage helped police trace his movement before and after the theft.
During inspection of the crime scene, police found tool marks on the shutter and footprints near the shop. A piece of cloth dropped at the spot also became an important clue in the investigation.
The accused reportedly gave himself away when he tried to sell some of the stolen jewellery to a local trader a few days later. The trader grew suspicious as the young man could not provide proper details about the jewellery and contacted the police.
Acting on the tip-off, police laid a trap and detained the suspect. During questioning, he confessed to the crime and revealed that he had been watching the shop for several days before planning the break-in.
Police recovered most of the stolen jewellery from his possession. Officials said the accused had earlier been involved in small theft cases and is believed to have acted alone.
Senior officers said the case was solved due to quick response and strong coordination between local police teams. They also urged shop owners to install proper security systems and alarms to prevent such incidents.
The accused has been sent to judicial custody, and further investigation is underway to find out whether he was involved in any other theft cases in the city.
