Bharat Ratna Award : President Draupadi Murmu on Saturday (30 March) honoured 5 personalities of the country with the highest civilian honour Bharat Ratna. These include former Prime Minister Chaudhary Charan Singh, PV Narasimha Rao, agricultural scientist Dr MS Swaminathan, and former Chief Minister of Bihar Karpuri Thakur.
Senior BJP leader Lal Krishna Advani was also supposed to receive the Bharat Ratna award, but he did not appear at the Rashtrapati Bhavan today, instead the President will go to his house on March 31 to honour him. All the four personalities except Advani were awarded the Bharat Ratna posthumously. Their family members received the award from the President.

Former Prime Minister Narasimha Rao’s Bharat Ratna award was received by his son – PV Prabhakar Rao. Similarly, MS Swaminathan’s Bharat Ratna award was received by his daughter Dr. Nitya Rao. Karpoori Thakur’s Bharat Ratna award was received by his son Ramnath Thakur. While Chaudhary Charan Singh’s Bharat Ratna award was given to his grandson Jayant Chaudhary.
The Centre has announced to give Bharat Ratna award to 5 personalities this year. Since Modi came to power in 2014, Madan Mohan Malviya, Atal Bihari Vajpayee, Pranab Mukherjee, Bhupen Hazarika and Nanaji Deshmukh have received this award during Modi’s tenure. Including the 5 personalities of 2024, the number of people who have received this award till now will become 53.

Let us tell you that President Murmu had announced to give Bharat Ratna to Karpuri Thakur on 23 January, a day before his 100th birth anniversary. Karpuri Thakur was the Chief Minister of Bihar twice and Deputy CM once. He is known for advocating the interests of backward classes.
Similarly, PM Modi had announced to give Bharat Ratna (posthumously) to Dr. MS Swaminathan, PV Narasimha Rao and Chaudhary Charan Singh on 9 February. Swaminathan was an agricultural scientist. He is called the father of ‘Green Revolution’ in India.
Narasimha Rao was the 9th Prime Minister of the country. Charan Singh was the fifth Prime Minister of India. He was also the 5th Chief Minister of Uttar Pradesh. He dedicated his entire life for the rights of farmers and their welfare.
