Delhi Tragedy: How did the basement get filled with water?
Initial investigation has revealed that there was a library in the basement where many students were present. There were about 30 students in the basement. Suddenly the basement started filling with water due to which ropes had to be used to take out the trapped students. But three students remained trapped in the basement. Due to water filling in the coaching center, the furniture kept there started floating.
Some students present at the time of the accident said that suddenly the basement was flooded with water. A student told TOI that the flow of water was so fast that the basement gate broke and the basement was flooded with water. Another student said that waterlogging occurred due to poor drainage. This led to this accident.
Delhi Tragedy: The drains weren’t cleaned
On the other hand, Delhi unit president of Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) Virendra Sachdeva and New Delhi MP Bansuri Swaraj visited the spot and blamed the Aam Aadmi Party government for the incident, saying that the local MLA ignored repeated appeals from the local people to clean the drains. Sachdeva said, “The criminal negligence of the Delhi government is responsible for this accident. Water Board Minister Atishi and local MLA Durgesh Pathak should take responsibility and resign from their posts.”
Delhi government in action
After this incident, the Delhi government has come into action. Delhi government minister Atishi has directed Chief Secretary Naresh Kumar to start an investigation into the incident and submit a report within 24 hours. In a post on ‘X’, Atishi said, “A magisterial inquiry has been ordered to investigate how this incident happened. Whoever is responsible for this incident will not be spared.”
Such an accident happened before
Earlier this week, following heavy rains in central Delhi’s Patel Nagar area, a 26-year-old civil services aspirant died of electric shock when he touched an iron gate through which electricity was passing.
In June last year, a fire broke out in a coaching centre in Mukherjee Nagar, Delhi. Students had to save their lives by jumping using a rope. A total of 61 students were injured in this accident.
There are many educational coaching centres in Delhi that are violating safety norms. In May, the Delhi High Court had ordered the Delhi Municipal Corporation and the Delhi Development Authority to immediately shut down any coaching centre found to be operating in violation of prescribed fire safety norms.
‘Because of biometrics…’, eyewitness makes a big revelation on the death of 3 students in Rau IAS coaching
Eyewitness made a big disclosure
An eyewitness told about this incident, ‘Biometric machine is installed in the basement of Rau IAS Academy. Without bringing your thumb impression, you cannot come out. That is why I think that the biometric machine got damaged due to water and no one could come out. The eyewitness further said, ‘The administration is responsible for this incident. The present MLA and MP here keep blaming each other.’
DCP Central M Harshvardhan said this
On the Old Rajendra Nagar incident, DCP Central M Harshvardhan said, “We have registered a criminal case. Our forensic teams are here. The process of collecting forensic evidence is underway. We are committed to doing a proper investigation. We are committed to register a strong case and find out the truth. So far two people have been detained.”
BJP and AAP blamed each other
On the incident in Old Rajendra Nagar, AAP MLA Durgesh Pathak said, “This is a low-line area. Water flows from this line. The drain or sewer has broken and water has filled the basement. The teams are doing their work. BJP should also answer what they have done. They have been councillors for the last 15 years, yet why did they not get the drain constructed. All the drains cannot be constructed in one year. There is no need for politics, right now the lives of children are important.”
On this incident, BJP MP Bansuri Swaraj said, “These children had come here to build their future but the Delhi government did not listen to the local people. The local MLA Durgesh Pathak was being asked to get the drain cleaned but it was not done. The basement is completely filled with water and the furniture inside is floating. The Kejriwal government is responsible for this death. One body has been recovered but given the situation, perhaps more bodies may be recovered.”
