India Maldives Tension: Why do Maldives and India still need each other?

India Maldives Tension: India trains 70 percent of Maldives' soldiers. Maldives plays a big role in the security of India's maritime zone in the Indian Ocean.

India Maldives Tension: When Maldives made statements against India, the people of India boarded Maldives with hookah and water. People canceled their bookings to go to Maldives and scolded him. People described their Lakshadweep as better than Maldives. Then Maldives also had to come on the back foot. There the ministers had to resign.

Both countries need each other

There was even a no-confidence motion against President Muizzu, but the reality is that just as Maldives cannot function without India, in the same way India too may have to suffer huge losses by opposing Maldives. After all, what is it in Maldives that both the countries desperately need each other.

Look at Maldives on the world map. The biggest thing it has is its location. Maldives is a country situated in the Indian Ocean and is situated at a distance of just 300 nautical miles from the West Coast of India.

Although where it is located, it is one of the most popular commercial sea routes in the world, which is needed not only by India but by all the countries of the world, but there is another special thing with India and that is the security of India’s maritime area, Which is directly connected with Maldives in the Indian Ocean.

India trains Maldivian soldiers

This is the reason why India also spends money on training its soldiers for the security of Maldives. A figure shows that 70 percent of the training of Maldives’ army is done by India. This training either takes place on the island or they are trained in the Military Academy of India. Because India believes that if Maldives is safe then India will also be safe in the sea.

In the last 10 years, India has trained about 1500 soldiers of the Maldivian National Defense Force. To keep an eye on the sea through air routes, India has even provided aircraft and choppers to the Maldivian Army. India has also given training to Maldivian soldiers to land vertically on the island. Apart from this, India also wants to install Coaster Radar System in Maldives to monitor the activities going on in the Indian Ocean.

Role of Maldives in India’s maritime security

Social media may be infuriated by the wrong actions of some Maldivian leaders and people may curse Maldives to their heart’s content and should not go there for holidays, but the reality is that at present, without Maldives, India’s position in the Indian Ocean may be weakened. Is. Therefore, at the diplomatic level, India is solving the issues through talks with Maldives and Maldives is also doing the same.

Others may say that we can have a strong position in the Indian Ocean even without Maldives. What he says may be true, but the way China has set its sights on the Indian Ocean and is building its base there through investment in Maldives, is a cause of concern for us. This is the reason why we or our country cannot take any hasty step based on the statements of any leader which may become a menace for the future.

India does the infrastructure work

Maldives definitely needs us, because the rice, pulses, vegetables, chicken, fruits and medicines that Maldives eats come from India only. Apart from this, whether Maldives wants to build a school or a hospital, a house or a bridge, a road or an airport, India sends all the necessary materials like cement, bricks and boulders to Maldives.

Rest, one of the biggest hospitals of Maldives is a 300 bed multi-specialty hospital, which has been built by India and its name is Indira Gandhi Memorial Hospital. In such a situation, if Maldives becomes enmity with India, then its citizens will have to face problems every day, which no country would want.
