In UP, 43 people died due to lightning, 9 due to drowning and 2 due to snake bite. Meanwhile, in Jharkhand’s Saraikela-Kharsawan district, three people including a woman and her minor son died and three others were injured due to lightning. Apart from this, 20 students were seriously injured in a school in Murshidabad, West Bengal due to lightning.

More than 20 students were seriously injured when lightning struck a tree in the premises of Bhagirathpur High School in Domkal, Murshidabad. Students were studying in the classroom when the lightning struck. After the accident, the injured students were taken to Domkal Super Specialty Hospital. News agency IANS quoted hospital sources as saying that all the injured students are out of danger.

The Bihar government had told on Monday (July 8, 2024) that 12 people died due to lightning in the last 24 hours. With this, the total number of deaths due to lightning since July 1 has increased to 42. Actually, heavy rains are continuously occurring in many areas of UP, Jharkhand, West Bengal and Bihar. More than 18 lakh population of a total of 923 villages in 16 districts of the state, Lakhimpur Kheri, Pilibhit, Shravasti, Gonda, Balrampur, Kushinagar, Shahjahanpur, Ballia, Basti, Siddharthnagar, Barabanki, Sitapur, Gorakhpur, Bareilly, Moradabad and Azamgarh are affected by the floods.
