NEET UG 2024 Controversy: Supreme Court Rules – No Cancellation, Students with Grace Marks Must Retake! Results by June 30| Congress demands CBI inquiry

NEET UG 2024: Regarding grace marking in NEET, NTA told the Supreme Court that the 1563 students who have been given grace marks are being given the option of re-examination. Students who do not want to re-appear for the examination will be given their original marks without grace marks.

NEET UG 2024 Controversy: The Supreme Court heard the NEET exam result dispute case today. Three petitions filed regarding the rigging in the NEET exam (NEET Exam Scam) were heard. NTA has given the option of re-taking the exam to students with grace marks in NEET. In this way, now 1563 students will have to take the exam again. Their score card has been canceled. The exam will be held again on June 23 and the result will be declared by June 30. At the same time, the Supreme Court has refused to ban NEET counseling.

Arguments were presented in the court on the grace marks given to the students in the exam.

Supreme Court- At how many centres did students lose time?
NTA – 6 Centers

Supreme Court – How many candidates?
NTA – 1563

Supreme Court- Then everything is covered?
J Sai Deepak: So please also consider those people who lost their time but did not approach the court.

Supreme Court- This means keep waiting till the last moment. Sorry but now students are very much educated.

What did the Supreme Court say?

The court told the petitioners that NTA has accepted your point and is removing the grace marks. These students have been given the option to appear in the re-NEET exam. These students can now either appear in the exam again or can participate in NEET UG counseling with the mark sheet containing grace marks.

However, the Supreme Court said that not every student will be able to apply for the exam again. Only those students will be able to give the exam again, whose time was reduced. The CLAT decision cannot be applied here. Lawyer J Sai Deepak said that 1563 students had approached the court for not getting time. But what about those who did not come to the court. On which the court said whether those students are here or are you looking at their brief, do not expand the scope unnecessarily.

‘Government is ready to answer’

On the Supreme Court hearing, Education Minister Dharmendra Pradhan said, “No paper was leaked. 24 lakh students appeared in the NEET exam. The matter being heard in the court is related to about 1500 students. The government is ready to answer the court. This particular issue is being considered and a committee has been formed for this. The government will present its report before the court. NTA successfully conducts major examinations in the country i.e. NEET, JEE and CUET. We will take action against those responsible for this.”

What is the argument of the petitioners?

Let us tell you that the petitioners in the Supreme Court had claimed that there was irregularity in giving grace marks, hence the exam should be cancelled and conducted again. Regarding grace marking, NTA told the Supreme Court that the 1563 students who have been given grace marks are being given the option of re-examination. Students who do not want to re-appear in the exam will be given their original marks without grace marks.

One of the three petitions has been filed by Physics Wala CEO Alakh Pandey. He claims that NTA’s decision to give grace marks is arbitrary. The second petition has been filed in the court by SIO members Abdullah Mohammad Faiz and Dr. Sheikh Roshan Mohiuddin. In these petitions, a demand has been made to withdraw the exam results and conduct the exam again.

Why were grace marks given?

Let us tell you that 1563 candidates from 6 centers were given grace marks due to ‘wasting of time’, who have been given the option to appear in the exam again or accept the result with actual marks without grace marks. There was also news that 44 students who scored 720/720 marks were given ‘compensatory marks’ despite one answer being wrong, because that answer was published wrongly in the 12th class textbook.

During the hearing , NTA told the court that on June 12, the committee had decided that the grace marks given to 1563 students will be taken back and these students will be given the option to take the exam again. Students who do not want to take the exam again will be given marks after deducting the grace marks. The court has given the order accepting the NTA’s statement.

How did 67 toppers in NEET?

Let us tell you that this year the maximum number of 67 students have topped the NEET exam together. All these students have got full 720 marks out of 720. So far so many students have never topped NEET. In the year 2021, 3 students topped together. Normally only 2 or 3 students top together. But this time the situation is different. There are a large number of toppers. However, NTA argues that this year the question paper was easy and more candidates took the exam. That is why more people have topped.

Congress Leader Gaurav Gogai

‘There should be a CBI inquiry, why is the PM silent’, Congress spoke on the irregularities in NEET, also retaliated on the statement of the Education Minister

Congress has now retaliated to the Education Minister Dharmendra Pradhan statement. Congress leader Gaurav Gagoi has targeted the central government in a press conference.

Gaurav Gogai attacked Education Minister Dharmendra Pradhan and said, ‘No investigation was done and the result was given. If they ask the government officials, they will get the same answer that everything is fine. Children and their parents have the right to know how you reached this decision. The Prime Minister is silent, the Education Minister is saying without investigation that nothing happened. Even after this mandate, his arrogance has not ended. There should be a CBI investigation into this.’

Targeted the central government

Targeting the central government, he said, ‘The Education Minister and the Prime Minister are silent. They do not want to talk. The NTA, under whose leadership the paper was leaked, has been asked to conduct an inquiry. How can we expect an impartial investigation? The coaching centre nexus has destabilised the lives of middle class families. This is a nexus, will the NTA be able to investigate it? If they have found any paper, then surely some NTA official is involved in it.’

Demand raised for CBI investigation

Thanking Rahul Gandhi, he said, ‘I thank him for raising this issue.’ Targeting Prime Minister Modi, he said, he used to discuss exams, used to give guidance regarding exams. Why is he not discussing the scam that has happened today? Congress party demands a CBI inquiry.

He further said, ‘There should be a Supreme Court monitored investigation into this. We have heard the recordings in which lakhs of rupees are being demanded. These exams prepare our future doctors, are they being prepared like this?’
